THHow to take notes most efficiently as a student
The biggest thing here is please stop spending loads of time on notes as a student!! It has been proven again and again that the best way to learn is through active learning (flashcards, teaching etc.) and not by writing notes.
BUT I do completely get that you need notes so that you actually have the content down to make the flashcards!! Therefore it’s about making the notes in the fastest way possible.
Here are 2 of the best options for doing this:
Skip the notes and just put them on flashcards instead -> for some of my subjects I just write up my notes directly on flashcards with a question on the other side so then I’m not wasting time rewriting flashcards from my notes. I think this is a good option for slightly ‘easier’ subjects with more straightforward content.
Utilise an AI -> for slightly harder subjects that I need to just focus in the lecture on understanding rather than trying to make flashcards as well, I focus my time on just properly getting all the info down. But then to save time, I use an AI to auto-generate more notes/flashcards so I’m not wasting time. My favourite at the moment is youlearn.ai but honestly there are so many good student focused AI’s at the moment! Definitely give the flashcards a check though to make sure no information has been missed off, but as a general it literally does save me so much time!!
But yeah obviously everyone does work differently but I really would recommend focusing more time on active recall (flashcards/quizzes) over rewriting notes because you will retain so much more information in a much shorter time!!
Hope this helps :)
