💜💛💜Happy OT week! 💜💛💜 This years theme is “What OT means to me” @grow.with.kindness and @fourlittlemonkeysco have teamed up to share just some of the things that come to mind when we think about our profession. Occupational therapists can work with absolutely ANYONE, and can work just about ANYWHERE! Occupation isn’t just the job you do - it’s any meaningful task, role or activity that you undertake in your day to day life. This can be in relation to any area of your life, whether it be work, play, self-care, sleep, social, emotional, physical, mental, eating, drinking, walking, grooming, talking, and more….if you can name it, rest assured an OT can help! We help people to reach their full pOTential (see what we did there) through assessing function in any of these areas and working with our clients/patients in a way that is meaningful and empowering to them. We also often work as part of multidisciplinary allied health teams, which help us to work with the people we support in a holistic way. How has OT helped you? Provide prompts and questions to explore what they mean to them, their relevance to their story, how it connects to relationships and how it makes them feel. You know, all the OT stuff. But what we’re really doing is gathering a picture of how a child develops, learns, and engages with their world. From these observations, we can determine what support is needed: a referral for further therapy, a home programme to empower parents, or small classroom adaptations that make learning accessible. It’s about noticing strengths, uncovering challenges, and finding the best way forward. As a family (and OTs), we value inclusivity, and this game allowed all generations to come together and have a blast. It's not just about accommodating different needs; it's about enhancing our participation in meaningful activities (like playing with grand kids and great grand kids). As OTs we develop tasks to build skills tailored to all abilities, creating moments of joy and leaning. This is why I love #OccupationalTherapy so much; it's not just a profession, but a way of life most of us apply to our loved ones and and enriches our daily experiences.
