MUA 28-year-old woman from Mulund, who works in the private sector and lives with her parents, fell victim to a romance scam after connecting with a man on a dating app in August 2025. The accused, using the alias Kaushik Raj Abhaykumar Singh (also known as Ankit Singh), gained her trust by promising marriage and offering heavily discounted travel packages to destinations like Goa, Varanasi, and Belgium. He even visited her home in Mulund to meet her family, which helped convince her and her father to transfer ₹2.18 lakh via bank and UPI for supposed tickets and hotel bookings. After receiving the money, he made excuses, issued bounced cheques (if any), then disappeared and stopped all contact. The victim approached Mulund Police, leading to an FIR under cheating and criminal breach of trust sections. Officers are investigating and suspect the accused may have targeted others with similar tactics. No arrest has been reported as of March 14, 2026.
