OPThere’s space for every art form - movies and opera. Support artists in your community in your local movie, opera house, community center or art gallery.
In a recent conversation with Matthew McConaughey, Timothée Chalamet said: “I don’t want to be working in ballet or opera or things where it’s like, ‘Hey! Keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about this anymore…’ All respect to the ballet and opera people out there.”
But the internet had something different to say: Opera isn’t dying. It’s evolving. It’s selling out houses. It’s changing lives.
🚨🗣️ If you care about opera, share this post to show that the opera world and this art form is very much alive! 🔥🎶📣✨
Instagram responses to the reel:
“Opera has been around since the 16th century and is STILL alive and well today… I think that speaks volumes. What a shame that you don’t have respect for other art forms… which of course have also greatly influenced movies…”🎥
“Last year, my major opera house debut was completely sold out. Over 2,000 people at each performance.” 🎟️
“What a disappointing take. There is nothing more impressive than the magic of live theatre, ballet and opera. We should be trying to uplift these art forms, these artists and come together across disciplines to do that.” 🎼
“Live theatre, opera, ballet could always use the support of artists with such reach. Choosing to further continue the misconception that these art forms are dead is irresponsible, disrespectful and ignorant — especially from someone who had the privilege to attend an arts high school right next to Lincoln Center.” 📢
