1MSAP has long had a reputation for complex and costly implementations. Some of the biggest and most well-known ERP failures in the industry are SAP failures or involve SAP. To counteract this perception, GROW and RISE have developed. SAP pitches these programs as reducing complexity and reducing costs. The problem - if you believe the hype, you are more likely to devote less time and resources to the implementation because you believe it will be easier and less costly. The irony is that this actually increases the likelihood you will encounter significant problems.

1MOne of the leading causes of failed ERP software implementation and digital transformation failures is unreasonable expectations. SAP pitches its GROW deployment model as a way to reduce risk and complexity by relying on minimal customization, a “clean core,” and preconfigured templates. This can increase the risk of failure by creating an unrealistic expectation that the implementation will be easier than it actually will be. Customers are less likely to dedicate appropriate resources, budget, and time because they believe the implementation will be an easy "lift and shift."
