TRUST 👏🏻 YOUR 👏🏻 GUT and push for support. You deserve to be listened to. PMDD is still something that we don’t really talk about, it’s just swept away with a “right, but everyone gets bad periods sometimes” or “so… PMS then?” but it can be SO debilitating. I’d reached a point where I had pretty much convinced myself I was making it up. I went to the GP for something completely unrelated and happened to mention to her that I had suspected I had PMDD and didn’t know if the hormones could contribute to my issue. She took me seriously, didn’t dismiss me at all and when I explained to her why I thought I had PMDD she immediately made a follow up appointment where she completed a diagnosis and started proper treatment. It’s been almost a year and the difference is huge. I still get some fluxes but nothing like before. Trust yourself, seek support and keep banging on the door. ❤️ #pmdd #pmddawareness #pmddsupport #pmddpeeps #pmddcommunity

There’s more evidence out there than you might think! A simple google search will uncover myriad research articles. Look for journals dedicated to natural therapies, or search big medical databases for studies on specific foods, herbs, or therapies. Be curious & explore! 🧪Testing Challenges Some natural therapies can be tricky to test. Unlike drugs, plants are complex and isolating a single factor is hard & potentially unreliable. Some therapies like exercise or meditation don’t have obvious placebos 💰The Money Game Research is costly, & companies invest only where they see a return. Pharmaceutical companies can patent drugs & make a lot of money from them, so they have more incentive to fund research. Most natural remedies can’t be patented so the financial reward isn’t as motivating. 🙅🏻‍♀️Gender Research Gap Most medical research is focused on male bodies. This means there can be gaps in our understanding of how medications, diseases & treatments affect female bodies differently. 🌛Ancient Wisdom TCM, Ayurveda, & Western Herbalism have been around for centuries! This points to a long history of known & practiced benefits. Just because it hasn’t been studied in a lab doesn’t mean it’s worthless. 🥸Science Plays Catch-Up Science is amazing, but it doesn’t have all the answers. Sometimes, it takes time to confirm what has been known for ages. Naturopaths have been talking about the gut-brain connection & the importance of gut health for millennia, but science is finally catching up in the past 10-20years! 🌿Natural Remedies for PMDD? There’s growing research into PMDD, & more is coming out all the time thanks to increasing PMDD awareness & advocacy. There is also much to consider in terms of what benefits mental health or hormonal health that is relevant for PMDD. Of course always talk to your primary health care practitioner before trying anything new. Hey, so a lot of people already know from my IG and FB that I used to have mad hormone issues (I kinda self-diagnosed myself with PMDD). I was on the contraceptive patch to help for about 2 years, and it helped with the PMDD symptoms— they where non existent But a few months ago, I started feeling really poorly, with weird symptoms that no doctor or test could figure out. We wondered if it was the patch – even though I’d been on it for ages, I guess I might’ve reacted to the hormones. So, my doctor told me to stop it last month, and yeah, my symptoms cleared up. But then, last week, I started noticing my mood, thoughts, and feelings changing, and I knew I was on my first hormone cycle since stopping. Wednesday this week was the worst — I’ve honestly never felt so low in my life. I’m struggling a lot; I can’t even put into words some of the things I’m thinking. Just getting out of bed has been tough, but I’m trying. I managed to get up Thursday morning and train my clients and do my bootcamp, but I was back in bed by the afternoon. Took last night off everything, but the thoughts and feelings are still here, like massive waves crashing over me every time I wake up. My training, my classes and PTs are what keep me going, but honestly, these crazy hormones are messing everything up. The things I usually love and that make me happy are now making my anxiety and mood worse. Yesterday, I went to the doctor, and they officially diagnosed me with PMDD — I kinda knew already, but this was next level. She’s not gonna give me the hormone contraceptive now because of how my body reacted recently to the Evra patch. Instead, she gave me fluoxetine, told me to take it for a month, then just two weeks before my period each month. But honestly, I’m hesitant to start because I’ve been watching videos and reading people’s experiences, and now I’m super anxious about the side effects. I got the tablets yesterday, and I just keep staring at them, feeling worse all the time. Anyone have any experiences in fluoxetine! #fluoxetine #pmdd #pmddawareness #pmddstruggles #fluoxetinegang #pms #anxietyrelief #anxietysquad #anxietydisorder #pmddsupport #evra #evrapatch

It’s PMDD awareness month 💙 This is a throwback from an APEC Females and the Economy panel where I talk a bit about it. My friends will all know that I’m a majorly obsessed with talking about periods and cycles. PMDD awareness is suicide prevention. It’s when people experience abnormal reactions to the fluctuations of hormones in their cycle, usually in the luteal phase. PMS’s evil cousin, it has only been recognised by DSM-5 in 2013 (as it is often misdiagnosed as other things) and affects 5-8% of people who menstruate. I’m posting this in case someone has a ‘lightbulb moment’ 💡for themselves or someone else. For more information check out @iapmdglobal or @the.pmdd.collective and if you think you might have it, also follow @pmddmemes for relief (and talk to your doctor!) #pmdd #femalehealth #womenshealth #afabhealth #pmddawarenessmonth #periods #apec #apecwomen #pmdawarenessmonth2024 #pmdawarenesschallenge

It's what I call it in my house. A little bit of PMDD awareness because until I was diagnosed, I thought I was certifiable. Ladies, If you have some of the following symptoms during your cycle, you may want to your doctor about PMDD. Men, I wouldn't suggest pointing these symptoms out to your significant other but if you can lovingly bring awareness to it, it might help your loved one. You can even send her this post... * Irritability * Nervousness * Lack of control * Agitation * Anger/Rage * Insomnia * Difficulty in concentrating * Depression * Severe fatigue * Anxiety * Confusion * Forgetfulness * Poor self-image * Paranoia * Emotional sensitivity * Crying spells * Moodiness * Trouble sleeping I call it PMS on steroids and once I got a diagnosis, I took better care of myself during that week. My mental health tanks during this time and while it's predicable for me, I still struggle to not feel awful about myself. I have tried to be aware and help my family be aware so I'm able to handle this time in a healthier way. Sometimes that means putting myself to bed and avoiding others. Sometimes that means watching true crime videos. 😂 Giving myself a little extra love during this time has made the relationships around me so much better. Reach out if you think this may be something you're struggling with and I can help answer anything I know.

SHARE THIS REEL TO HELP SPREAD AWARENESS. An extremely alarming number of people - 34% - with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) have attempted suicide to escape the debilitating symptoms. This is NOT OK. This number does not account for missed or misdiagnosis nor women or AFAB individuals whose ovulatory cycle is suppressed by hormonal, chemical, or surgical means. 🦋💕💫 Today is the SECOND-EVER PMDD AWARENESS DAY in the state of Missouri. #PMDDAwarenessDay #PMDDAwarenessDay2024 #secondannual The observance was created in memory of Christina Elizabeth Bohn, who lost her battle with PMDD. This past Saturday was the in-person portion of our IGNITE YOUR FIGHT RACE SERIES: The Christina Elizabeth Bohn Memorial 5K for PMDD Awareness. Among those in attendance were Christina's college roommates, all dressed in teal. The girls came in from Texas, Utah, North Carolina, and Nevada to honor their friend and spread the word about PMDD. We can't let this disorder take any more lives. There's still time to join the fight! Registration has been extended for our virtual 5K. You choose the date! Register at iapmd.org/events. Together, we can make a difference for those who suffer from Premenstrual Disorders! 🖤💬 I’m clocking K’s for R U OK? – and I need your help! This October, I’m walking, running (and probably sighing 😅) to raise funds for a cause that’s incredibly close to my heart – mental health awareness and suicide prevention with @ruokday. Instead of birthday gifts this year, I asked my friends and fam to support causes that mean the most to me — PMDD awareness, domestic violence support, and mental health. This fundraiser is part of that 💛 ✨ Every step I take is for those who need to feel seen, heard, and supported. ✨ Every dollar helps R U OK? provide free life-saving resources to schools, workplaces, and families across Australia. 📲 You can donate or share here: 🔗 https://ksforruok.ruok.org.au/s/16636/18129/s 🧡 Or hit the link in my bio! We’re Back! We know it’s been quiet for a little while, but behind the scenes, we’ve been working hard to bring PMDD awareness, advocacy, and support to the forefront of Australia! PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) is one of the most misunderstood reproductive & mental health conditions and this is leaving too many women and individuals assigned female at birth without answers, support, or access to proper care - nationwide! Premenstrual Disorders Australia (PMDA) exists to see this change! Over the coming months, we’ll be: ✔️ Amplifying voices within the PMDD community ✔️ Sharing evidence-based resources to raise awareness ✔️ Advocating for better healthcare pathways and recognition for Australian's living with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder We’re just getting started! Premenstrual Disorders Australia is an officially registered Australian Not-for-Profit Charitable Organisation with the Australian Charities & NFP Register and all donations above $2.00 are tax deductible! 🩵 Please support us by donating at www.pmda.org.au 🩵 Follow us to stay up to date and help us push for change on Instagram, Facebook & LinkedIn! 💥 #PMDA #PMDD #PMDDAustralia #PMDDawareness #PMDDpeeps #PMDDwarrior #PMDDcommunity #PMDDsupport #iapmd #Hormonalhelp #Periodproblems #Womenshealth #Menstrualhealth #Menstrualcycle #suicideprevention #hormones #pms #Reproductivehealth #Mentalhealthawareness #womensmentalhealth #Endthestigma #menopause #Youarenotalone #Breakthesilence
