April is PMDD Awareness Month and we’re kicking it off by stepping into the LimeLight for PMDD 💚 This is a defiant movement putting PMDD front and centre. Every month, millions of people suffer through the debilitating symptoms of PMDD, and yet it remains overlooked. So we’re saying, no more! By adopting the LimeLight symbol, wearing one lime green fingernail or a lime green pin badge we’re making this conditions seen, heard, and impossible to ignore. How to get involved: ✅Paint your ring finger lime green ✅ Wear your LimeLight nail for the last 10 days of April and then during your luteal phase ✅ Share a picture or video saying “I’m stepping into the LimeLight for PMDD” ✅ Tag @weareevelyn and use #PMDDLimeLight ✅ Encourage your friends, family, and co-workers to join in whether they experience PMDD or stand in support This is more than awareness. This is action. #PMDDLimeLight

PMDD Awareness Month PreMenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) is a condition affecting 1 in 20 menstruating people. It is characterised by severe pre menstrual symptoms and can be classified as a disability due to the debilitating nature of the symptoms Symptoms include (but are not limited to) depression, anxiety, mood swings, irritability, sensitivity to light and noise, headaches and migraines, nausea and vomiting, dizziness and fainting, changes in appetite and cravings, insomnia, fatigue and lethargy Most with PMDD will go undiagnosed, but some will receive a misdiagnosis, usually for depression, bipolar, BPD Whilst there is no official diagnosis for PMDD, there are many resources available online to find out if you suspect you have PMDD There is also no understanding of what causes PMDD though there do seem to be links with those who have experienced trauma, and it can be more common in those with autism and ADHD Treatment options are limited, most get offered the pill or antidepressants. There are supplements that some find helpful, and lifestyle changes that can have benefits. At this time, there is no specific treatment, just management options Some of the comments featured in this reel are ones I have personally experienced whilst seeking help and support Many with PMDD will experience debilitating symptoms, and rates of s3lf h4rm and su1cid3 are horrendously high It’s all too common that women’s health gets overlooked and under funded and it just can’t go on; how many people need to suffer before it gets taken seriously?! This reel was inspired by one made by @thefoodmedic on endometriosis As this month was PMDD awareness month, I wanted to recreate it to bring attention to PMDD If you are struggling with PMDD, or feel you may have it, please seek medical help and advice, and don’t stop until you get the support you deserve! And if you are a PMDD warrior, keep fighting 🖤 #pmdd #pmddawareness #pmddawarenessmonth #mentalhealth

HAPPY PMDD AWARENESS MONTH! ☺️ It’s always good to open the discussion about symptoms we have that are beyond the basic list you’ll find through a google search, because we all experience this disorder a bit differently, and it helps us feel less alone about those things that it seems like nobody else feels or understands 🤍 This is from my tiktok account and I just posted part 2 there as well (same username over there if you like that app and want to follow me there too) 🥰 #pmddsupport #pme #pmdd #pmddawarenessmonth #hormonehealth

It’s PMDD awareness month 💙 This is a throwback from an APEC Females and the Economy panel where I talk a bit about it. My friends will all know that I’m a majorly obsessed with talking about periods and cycles. PMDD awareness is suicide prevention. It’s when people experience abnormal reactions to the fluctuations of hormones in their cycle, usually in the luteal phase. PMS’s evil cousin, it has only been recognised by DSM-5 in 2013 (as it is often misdiagnosed as other things) and affects 5-8% of people who menstruate. I’m posting this in case someone has a ‘lightbulb moment’ 💡for themselves or someone else. For more information check out @iapmdglobal or @the.pmdd.collective and if you think you might have it, also follow @pmddmemes for relief (and talk to your doctor!) #pmdd #femalehealth #womenshealth #afabhealth #pmddawarenessmonth #periods #apec #apecwomen #pmdawarenessmonth2024 #pmdawarenesschallenge

It’s PMDD awareness month and something I feel really passionate about raising awareness for; so many of us are struggling each month; with things seeming to spiral out of our control because of this stage in our cycles. And then we are left picking up the pieces each time, often feeling guilt or shame for how we may have behaved or reacted during an episode! If you can relate to the symptoms, it may help you to join support groups to speak with or even just read other people’s questions/answers and feel a sense of validation and community with people that truly understand you 🫶 You don’t have to struggle alone, & having someone to speak to can help dramatically, even someone to just cry with or scream into the void. Don’t be afraid to reach out because there are so many more people who struggle with this than you realise, and it’s NOT normal and not just PMS or “part of being a woman” 🤦🏻‍♀️ So many of us get dismissed and feel unheard when we do speak to a GP about these concerns, because unfortunately there is still a huge lack of research and understanding on PMDD. But there are pages like mine that are spreading awareness and understanding about this, you’re not alone! 💜 #pmddawareness #pmdd #pmddsupport #pmddcommunity #adhdinwomen #autisticwomen #autisticwoman #adhdwomen

Getting diagnosed with PMDD in 2014 was the beginning of my healing. Prior to that, I had had pretty much every psychiatric diagnosis thrown at me... but none of them were quite right. Bipolar II or cyclothymia were probably the closest because I truly felt like Jekyll & Hyde. Like I was a totally different person depending on what time of month it was. And “they” tried - Zoloft, xanax, xanax XR, klonapin, Ativan, Prozac, ambien, sonata, Effexor, buspar, naltrexone. taking the pill continuously... some of them all at once - at one point I was on 7 meds - but none of that really helped. It wasn’t until my very smart, insightful therapist realized that these symptoms I was having were cyclical, like clockwork... that I finally got the correct diagnosis and was able to start addressing the REAL root causes. April is PMDD Awareness Month. Contrary to popular belief, PMDD is not just “severe PMS.” The root causes are different. For me, progesterone doesn’t make me feel calm and chill - it makes me wired and anxious and like my brain is trying to claw its way out of my skull. And one major difference is that PMDD affects your ability to go about your day to day life. There are solutions. There’s no shame in medications if they keep you alive while you’re getting to those root causes. I’m currently on no medications. But it took years to get there. I still get a little blue and squirrel-brained a couple days before my period starts... but I can leave the house and do normal things, which is life changing. I feel like I’ve reclaimed 1/2 to 3/4 of my life. You are not alone.❤️
