ASThe controversy around going “AI First” has surprised me. As a 5x language learner myself I’m aware that Duolingo is phenomenally positioned to take advantage of multimodal AI to make the best language learning app that has ever existed… but instead they let their investor relations press clash with consumer marketing… and it’s a fascinating fumble. Long story short, Duolingo doesn’t have a PR problem. AI does. The brands who prioritize conveying WHY they are adding AI to their products will keep their customers and gain new ones.
