INNamed for its distinctively shaped skull, the flat-headed cat is one of the world’s most endangered and elusive felines.
Weighing in at less than the size of a domestic cat, this species roams the swampy peat forests of their native Southeast Asia. To navigate their muddy habitat, these cats are equipped with claws that don’t fully retract and partially webbed paws! 🐾

When frightened, they'll dive to the bottom of a body of water and take refuge among stones or vegetation, remaining still until the threat has passed. Video by @joelsartore | The largest of the 10,000 known millipede species, the giant African millipede reaches anywhere from 4 to 12 inches in length (10-30 cm). Millipedes are detrivores, which means that they feed on dead and decaying organic matter within their habitat. Once food is digested, these critters leave their nutrient-rich droppings all along the forest floor, creating new soil that helps plant life and other species that rely on the rainforest to thrive.
