WOWith two teens in high school I’m back to doing public school level record keeping.
My purpose in record keeping and generating parent transcripts is primarily to show post secondary institutions should the want to see a summary of their work.
Here’s a bit of my process:
🎓 I made a variety of rubrics for different types of projects (plus I include many custom rubrics in my resources) and use those to grade work. I also grade not using rubrics as well.
🎓 I record assignments, projects, etc into the custom Google Sheets grade sheet I had designed.
🎓 I write thorough course descriptions in google docs following a template I created so they are all consistent and provide ample information yet are concise and to the point.
🎓 I calculate and add final grades to the transcript template I created. I also add my son’s online course grades there as well. He’ll get a gov transcript for those but I like to have a copy with the full picture of all his homeschool courses.
🎓I keep a portfolio in a binder showing a few stand out pieces of work from each course.
Once I figured out my system it has been pretty simple to stay on top of and I like having the consistency from year to year. I think it’s more thorough than will likely ever be needed but I’d rather have more than not enough.
I also made all of this available for others by creating the High School Digital Record Keeping resource in my shop. It has the custom made google sheets templates that self calculate and allow for weighted grades, the course description template for Google Docs and the Transcript Template for Canva.

I’ve had students tell me that you “just bring the x down.” 😳 I’m sure that’s something they’ve probably heard.
Especially when first learning to solve equations, students need to understand why they are performing the steps and where the simplified solution comes from.

MUCan ChatGPT save my old rep?
I’ve been struggling to keep up with my old repertoire for a while 🥲 we’re always waiting for that *perfect* moment to work on that sonata or etude, but frankly, between work, performances and learning new rep, it feels like there’s never enough time 😆
So this year I’m AIMING 👏🏼 FOR 👏🏼 LESS 👏🏼 and starting my daily practice with just a quick run-through.
This weekly rotation plan has been perfect for me to warm up, it actually motivates me to practice PLUS it keeps my muscle memory alive without feeling overwhelmed.
So, here’s a prompt if you also want to try it:
✍🏼 “Help me organize my old repertoire for weekly practice. Here’s a list of pieces I’ve worked on — randomly pick one piece or movement per day to use as a warm-up for the next two months, label it as “Day 1”, “Day 2”, etc. Please format the plan as a PDF with check boxes so I can track my progress [insert repertoire list].”
