On January 18, 2026, 59-year-old Frank Monte was killed inside a home in the New Dorp neighborhood of Staten Island, New York. Monte was visiting a friend on New Dorp Lane when he was suddenly attacked by a black pit bull named “Bean.” According to witnesses and neighbors, the dog had a history of aggression and was well-known in the area for previous dangerous incidents. Police arrived at approximately 4:05 PM to find a gruesome scene; Monte was already deceased, having suffered catastrophic bites across his entire body. Investigators later discovered that the home had a complex history, including a police raid in 2025 that uncovered drugs and led to the arrest of another resident. The owner of the pit bull, who lived in the basement, claimed she was unaware the dog would attack, but the animal was immediately seized and euthanized by Animal Care Centers of NYC. As of January 21, 2026, the case is a terrifying reminder of the risks associated with “notorious” animals in residential areas. Frank Monte, a local who had recently celebrated eight months of sobriety, is being remembered by his partner of 25 years.
