At my last fest, I added a small “Freebie Section” with tiny things like stickers and tealight candles. Nothing fancy. Just a small tray that said FREE. And suddenly… People started stopping. Crowds started forming. And curiosity started pulling people toward the stall. Most of them came for the free stickers or tealights, but once they were there, they started looking at the scented candles, asking questions, smelling the fragrances… and many of them ended up buying. It worked because footfall creates sales. If you have a small business stall or handmade brand, sometimes the goal isn’t just selling immediately — it's getting people to stop first. And sometimes a ₹10 freebie can lead to a ₹500 sale. Small business marketing is really just human psychology in action. WHY I QUIT DOING FREE POP UPS ⬇️ 1. Pop ups are typically outside As you know the bees love sugar, and it’s a pain to navigate Most private events are inside which gets rid of that pesky problem 2. Pop up attendance is unpredictable It’s hard to create reliable revenue, when the foot traffic is hellla uncertain. You have no control over marketing the event (of course you can create content around you being there, but it’s not fully in your control) With a private event, you get paid up front & know exactly what to bring with little to no waste 3. Pop ups are an all day affair Listen, if we’re making moneyyyyy I don’t mind a 5,6,7 hour event (farmers markets & festivals are amazing for this) But paying for labor when sales are slow is only not the vibe, but it’s not smart business if you can avoid it With private events, you’re getting the cash flow up front & know exactly how much staff you need Pop ups have their time & their place, but private events are my preference & make the most sense for my business and my clients to. Private events create stability & predictably in your dirty soda or mobile beverage business, especially if you are operating from a tent or table setup The biggest question I had when I first started doing private events was how much to price my services at… And you probably have that question to!
