The protostars give off strong ionizing radiation and have powerful stellar winds. Excited hydrogen in the nebula emits light. The stars are actively carving their place in the molecular cloud and, eventually, their formation will disperse the remaining gas, which will go on to form new clouds and stars elsewhere in the galaxy. Using the Wide Field Camera 3 on Hubble in infrared wavelengths, we can slice through much of the cloud’s gas and dust to study the inner workings of star formation.
