STGet @reshare_app • @sandiegofiredept In this episode of We are San Diego Fire-Rescue, we take a closer look at our STAR (Special Tactics and Rescue) Medics and the important role they play in SWAT operations and other critical missions throughout the city.
Formed in the early 80’s, STAR Medics are specially trained Paramedics who deliver advanced care during tactical incidents alongside law enforcement in high-risk and complex environments.
This elite, cross-functional team also supports a range of specialized operations— including deploying with the U.S. Coast Guard for ocean rescues, assisting with diver safety, and providing medical support during dignitary visits. When not on specialized assignments, they serve the community from your local fire stations.
Fun Facts:
⭐ There are currently 1000+ SDFD Firefighters. Only 22 have the honor of being a STAR Paramedic.
⭐ Applicants must have at least three years of experience as a Firefighter and two years as a Paramedic.
⭐ @SanDiegoPD recently graduated its latest SWAT academy, which included four SDFD Firefighter/Paramedics.
