CY🚨 Scam Alert, This scary scam is on the rise.
@yourbestiemisha just got a text from their husband’s number but it wasn’t him.
This could’ve been SIM swapping or spoofing, and both are scary.
📱 SIM Swapping = A hacker takes control of your actual phone number by tricking your phone company
🎭 Spoofing = A hacker fakes your phone number to make it look like a call or text is coming from you
How to tell the difference:
✔️ If your phone suddenly loses service and you’re locked out of accounts → SIM Swap
✔️ If your phone still works fine, but people get weird messages from “you” → Spoofing
⚠️ Either way, the hacker can impersonate you and try to scam your friends or family.
Here’s how to protect yourself:
✅ Call your phone carrier ASAP if you suspect anything
✅ Use app-based 2FA instead of SMS codes
✅ Set up a safe word with loved ones so they know it’s really you
✅ Never share codes, passwords, or personal info over phone or text
🔐 A quick safety check can stop a devastating scam.
