SOThis is for all the parents who are trying to go screen-free or minimize screen time for their kiddos and need a “you got this” reminder. 😘
By choosing to limit screen time, you’re giving your kids the gift of a childhood filled with creativity, independence, and resilience. A childhood that is PLAY-based and teaches problem-solving and self-soothing over a dopamine fix.
The reality is devices + social media are an addiction and the pushback from kids is REAL. Going mostly screen-free in our home has been full of really beautiful moments and every good has outweighed the negative, but there have been challenges.
The detox period is no joke. For the first two weeks, expect tantrums, fights, and plenty of tears. There is also a fine line between entertaining and letting them be bored. You WILL need to be more present. This journey is going to ask you to show up, but it’s WORTH it. 💗Within a week or two your efforts will pay off. Every day feels like a new day for me and what helps me is sticking to the boundaries (what works for US is no screens during the week and limited on weekends) and not worrying so much about “being the bad guy”. I’m giving them the GREATEST GIFT. 75% of their lives is spent being an adult.
The biggest thing I’ve learned through our journey is the transition is SO MUCH EASIER with boundaries, a plan and resources. Here are some to help you get started:
• I have a highlight here called “unplugged” 📵with tons of shares + thoughts from my journey!
