I can finally cross a sewing class off of my 2026 bingo card!! I discovered the Phoenix Sewing Club and decided to stop in for a beginner class to make my own tote bag! 🙂‍↕️🧵 @lvndrkith There are sewing machines there that you could use for the class or you were highly encouraged to bring your own so the instructor could teach you how to use it! The class took about 4 hours and cost about $40 per person. It was really fun meeting other girls, yapping and just having a good creative time. From the moment you walk into her cute studio, Carly will make you feel right at home, guiding you through the process of picking fabrics, finding your diva (all of the machines are named after great female artists, since they can have “diva tendencies”), and learning the basics of machine sewing. Even if you’ve never sewed before in your life (🙋🏼‍♀️), Carly breaks it down and is there to help with any mistakes so you can have a final product you’re proud of - and maybe even be inspired to keep learning! I was not the “naturally gifted” kid in sewing class. And now this is my career. Here are the sewing hills I will die on: 1️⃣ You don’t have to be naturally talented. I hear it all the time — “I wish I could do that.” You can. Start messy. Start bad. Start anyway. It gets better. I promise. 2️⃣ Press your seams with a hot iron. Shortcuts show. I tried avoiding this for years. The difference is undeniable. 3️⃣ A few of the right supplies go a long way. You don’t need all the gadgets. But a few quality basics? Game changer. Comment SUPPLIES and I’ll send you my must-have list. 4️⃣ You don’t need to break the bank on a machine — but a decent one matters. A solid machine makes sewing so much more enjoyable. 5️⃣ An accurate ¼” seam changes everything. This is the difference between frustration and flow.
