NIGood causes and altruistic efforts are the most rewarding adrenaline rush. That inimitable buoyancy of impacting lives in a positive way!
This year the Shaila Fair was special to me because I personally invited some ten women entrepreneurs from Odisha to participate with traditional indigenous weaves, and crafts sourced from their highly creative local craftsmen . The Trust delineated a separate section for the Oriya entrepreneurs. It turned out to be a double whammy where I was able to help Shaila achieve their goals as well as promote Oriya handicrafts.
And what a double whammy it was to shop knowing that the proceeds would go toward great causes adopted by Shaila welfare Trust
Shaila Trust’s spring summer bazar at Taj president has become somewhat of a destination every year at this time of the year for ladies to shop their hearts out knowing it’s all for a great cause. The proceeds from this exhibition and Sale are utilized for Charitable Objectives of the Trust and several NGOs dot the space with colourful wares too- and these are given stalls free of charge. Balwadies for children of slum dwellers in Colaba and Cuffe Parade.
Children coming to Shaila school are given free mid-day meals.
Macchimar Nagar is where the trust runs free vocational training like Sewing Classes and Mehendi Classes for underprivileged girls from the slums to empower them with self reliance.

RBAt the beginning of 2020 I said to myself “I want to teach sewing classes” without a plan in place or knowing where to even start. A few months later, I found an incredible opportunity to help launch the MAKR program at @magpiespeacocks that teaches Houston women design and sewing. We don’t always know how we are going to reach our goals, but recognizing it and writing it down is the first step to making it happen. 🙌🏼
