CHWhen I first started out sewing, I had NO idea I was "supposed to" start with a specific checklist of projects before I started sewing clothes...
I only found this out after I had already started teaching sewing to others 🤣
I even built an entire 12-week program around teaching beginners to sew actual clothes without making a single "sample."
Because the list is BS 💩
❌️ Practice on tote bags first
❌️ Make something small and simple
❌️ You need to gain confidence first
Sorry, but being confident sewing a little zip pouch is NOT the same as being confident sewing a skirt with a waistband.
This is not home ec in high school where you have 3 years to practice hand stitches. You probably don't have endless hours to create sewing samples. So why waste time on these "must start with" projects?
If you want handmade clothes you should be starting with clothes.
Yes, you'll mess a few things up. But you'll be learning transferable skills that will speed up your wardrobe much more than sewing rectangles together.
If you're up for a BEGINNER sewing project you can actually wear immediately, check out Sewing Community in my bio filled with easy and fun projects🥳 See just how easy it really can be!
