PAFrom Port to Ship: How Your Export Container Stays Safe at Sea 🚢📦
When you export goods by sea, your cargo usually travels inside a sealed shipping container. After the container enters the port and completes the required checks, it’s moved to the container yard and then loaded onto the ship using massive cranes.
Here’s what happens in simple terms:
✅ 1) Smart Planning (Stowage Plan)
Before loading starts, the shipping line prepares a stowage plan. This plan decides where each container will be placed based on weight, destination port, and vessel safety rules.
✅ 2) Crane Loading
A large ship-to-shore crane lifts the container using a spreader and carefully places it into the correct slot on the ship.
✅ 3) Strong Locking & Lashing System
Containers don’t just “sit” on the vessel. They are secured using systems like twist locks, corner castings, and lashing rods/bars.
• Below deck: containers are guided and held by cell guides
• On deck: extra lashing is used to handle wind, waves, and vessel movement
✅ 4) Safe Movement Between Ports
After securing and final checks, the ship carries containers safely from one port to another—making sea freight one of the most reliable ways to move bulk exports.
