BI🎥🎬: Signs (2002)
Signs, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, is a slow-burn sci-fi thriller that blends alien invasion with faith, fear, and family.
The story follows Graham Hess, a former priest living on a quiet farm in rural Pennsylvania with his two children, Morgan and Bo, and his younger brother Merrill, a washed-up minor league baseball player. Since the tragic death of his wife, Graham has lost his faith and lives in emotional withdrawal.
One morning, strange crop circles appear in their cornfield. At first they seem like a prank, but soon similar signs are reported all over the world. News broadcasts begin to hint at something far more disturbing—an alien presence preparing for invasion.
As sightings increase, the family barricades themselves inside the house. The tension builds through eerie radio reports, shaky home-video footage, and brief, terrifying glimpses of the creatures. Rather than focusing on large-scale destruction, the film stays intimate, showing how fear plays out inside one fragile household.
During a night of terror, the aliens invade the house. Morgan is poisoned by one of the creatures, pushing Graham to pray for the first time since his wife’s death. In the climax, Graham realizes that what once seemed like random details—his wife’s final words, Bo’s habit of leaving glasses of water around the house, and Merrill’s baseball past—were all signs leading to survival. Water is revealed to be deadly to the aliens, and Merrill defeats one using a baseball bat.
Morgan survives, the aliens retreat from Earth, and Graham regains his faith. The film ends with the family healed, showing that what appeared to be coincidence was actually purpose.
