JEWho had one of these waterfall cardigans?🙋🏻♀️ Do you agree or disagree with my updates?
The left was my most-pinned outfit 2014 - 2015, and while the general formula still works, below are small ways I’d update it to feel more current and suit my lifestyle now.

Inspired by @merricksart’s fun series #merrickupdatesoutfits. Having blogged for over a decade, it’s interesting to see the evolution of styles and preferences!
1. Jeans: Denim trends are cyclical and skinny jeans can still look great, especially a solid dark wash (chic tucked into tall riding boots). However for my proportions, low-rise bottoms make my torso appear longer and legs look shorter, and are no longer comfy for me after having kids.
I love the updated jeans since they’re not skinny, not wide nor particularly trendy. Just a classic 90s-inspired straight. The high rise elongates my leg line, and the length (right below my ankle) works with many different shoes and flats.
2. Unintentional colorblocking: the 2015 contrast-colored belt and shoes further truncated my leg line. I think one or the other is fine, but wanted to illustrate the difference that similar-toned pants and shoes can make.
3. Ankle boots. The bunching + cuffing where my 2015 jeans sat on top of the boot shaft doesn’t look streamlined. With ankle boots, even a slightly wider jean that fits over the ankle opening will instantly look more sleek.
After going through all the toe shape phases over the years from round to pointy to square, my current favorite has been a rounded square toe.
4. Shirt: gingham always brings me back to the J.Crew 2000s era! I wore my share of it, but a solid or striped button-down is timeless. This is an old lightweight striped one I still love after many years!
5. Top layer: waterfall cardigans are still comfy to lounge in, but for a similar drape-front look that feels more sophisticated and less frilly, I love a long cardigan or trench.
6. Pop of something: I used to add a pop of color to every outfit! A more subtle way of adding an element of interest can be via a patterned bag, scarf, or shoe.
