I was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer at 31. Colon cancer in young adults is rising, and many people don’t recognize the symptoms early enough. Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing my journey openly; the symptoms, surgeries, treatment, and the perspective helping me move through it. If you or someone you love is going through something similar, know that you’re not alone. Awareness matters. #coloncancer #coloncancerawareness #stage4cancer #youngcancerpatient #cancerjourney

My stage 4 Tongue Cancer Journey Part #1 Today, May 28th is one year anniversary of my stage 4 tongue cancer diagnosis. 💥I was having one of the best years. 👑Got my first big win on @foodnetwork House of Knives, dumpling 🥟collaborations with large brands and movie franchises, traveled the world with my bestie and ate so much great food, finally beat my best competitor friend @chefbrookew on Triple Threats. I felt like I was on a rise, feeling invincible❤️ I severely bit my tongue during filming of House of Knives and the right side of my mouth was inflamed. Went to the dentist after filming and found out I shattered my right molar from grinding my teeth so hard. 🖤Starting Dec of 2024, I was in and out of dentist office for extraction, bone graft, tooth implant. Inflammation and pain on the right would come and go. By April, my voice changed, my right throat hurts when I swallow,my right ear was in pain and I could feel the lymph nodes on my right neck were swollen. But I assumed it was because of my dental work and crazy travel schedules, couple good nights of sleep will help. 💜By May, my tongue became fat, it kept catching on the sharp edge of my right molar, I asked my dental surgeon to grind part of my sharp tooth, and was looking forward to complete the tooth implant at the end of the May. On early morning of May 28th, I woke up with excruciating pain, choking and coughing up blood, the hidden tumor erupted. I had an appointment with my dentist that day to complete my teeth implant, but I was facing cancer instead. 💥 I was shocked, scared and confused initially, but I never felt like a victim. 故天将降大任于是人也,必先苦其心志,劳其筋骨,饿其体肤,空乏其身,行拂乱其所为. Chinese has a saying, “when the universe wants to reward you, give you a big responsibility, it will give you pain and suffering, to test your abilities, only the ones who can overcome the challenges will become great” I am a chef, a fighter, a warrior, I will win this battle, I will be Great 💪🦄🐦‍🔥 #chefshirleychung #fuckcancer #cancerwarrior #cancerjourney #stage4cancer #tonguecancer #anniversary #cancerawarness #dumplingmafiaqueen #chemotherapy

Tell newly diagnosed me 11 years ago that I’d be landing in India for innovative integrative cancer care and she’d have laughed and thought you were crazy. But if living with cancer has taught me anything it’s that healing isn’t linear. It evolves. So, so must I. This is my next chapter. I will share what my treatment plan will look like over the coming days as I know more myself. Follow @hopethelifestyle to understand why this place was a no brainer for me. P.S The clinic greeted me at the airport with a bunch of roses 🌹 ☺️ #hopethelifestyle #aohc #integrativecancercare #stage4cancer

“I recently started buying flowers for myself during my regular grocery runs. Flowers were always and only purchased for special occasions, and never for myself, but for others. It never made sense to add it to my grocery list and most importantly, it wasn’t necessary. Neither were the wine or chips or cookie dough I had in my basket… but somehow it made it to the register. I never really thought twice about these impulse buys and found every reason to justify why I deserved it. Then I heard a quote the other day from the Drew Barrymore show and this concept has stuck with me ever since, and quite literally has changed my life. A floral designer was a guest on the show and was asked what the secret was in making flowers last as long as possible. To which he responded, ‘Flowers are not supposed to last. Their job is to help us to stay in the present. They grow, they blossom, they thrive and then they’re gone. You have to stay in the present. You have to stop. You have to be in the moment. Otherwise you’re gonna blink and they’re gonna be gone.’ So I started buying flowers for myself. It made it to the grocery list. Not an impulse buy, not an afterthought. Perfectly intentional, perfectly present. Also can’t help but to keep smelling the flowers! My apartment smells divine. 🌷✨” It’s an understatement to say navigating life after a cancer diagnosis is hard. There is just so much you are holding and faced with. Here’s a midweek reminder to do something for yourself that brings you joy. Treat yourself to something sweet. You deserve that. Quarterly treatment for stage 4 metastatic cancer. After the hugs and catching up, my doctor paused and said, “It’s been about four years.” Four years ago I was at my PCP’s getting checked out for a clogged duct I thought I couldn’t get unclogged. Four years ago I didn’t have the label of breast cancer. Four years. Four years was my original prognosis. I remember hearing that timeline so clearly… feeling like the ground dropped beneath me. I thought, if this stat- MY given stat is true, I won’t even see Sophia make it to kindergarten. And now… here I am. Four years later. Feeling healthier, stronger, centered. I am not a statistic and refuse to be one. It’s a strange place to live… this space between two realities. One where life feels almost “normal,” where the medications, routines and treatments have become part of my everyday rhythm. And another reality where I’m still very much in the cancer world where scans, vigilance and uncertainty quietly exist in the background. My team has always said, “At five years, we send holiday cards. We loosen the reins.” That milestone feels both hopeful and so surreal. For now, we stay in surveillance; low dose chemo, heavy minerals, homeopathics… watching closely, caring for my whole body, honoring what it’s been through. With a high BRCA2 and a system that needs to work extra hard to detox, staying aware is how we move forward. Grateful to be here. Holding both realities at once. Still walking this road, one season at a time. ❤️

My first symptoms didn’t look like cancer at all. • Extreme arm pain — so severe I couldn’t lift my arms • Difficulty swallowing… then not being able to swallow anything, not even water • 50 pounds lost in two months because I physically could not eat • Severe joint pain — every joint you can name, moving around my body on different days When I explained this to my primary care doctor, she asked me a question I’d never heard before: “Have you ever heard of myasthenia gravis?” I hadn’t. She ordered bloodwork and a CT scan of my thymus. Every test came back positive for myasthenia gravis AND They found tumors on my thymus that had spread to my lungs. Stage IV thymic cancer. Five surgeons told me I was inoperable. I was pressured into chemotherapy to try to shrink the tumors. It didn’t work. The tumors grew. I KNEW BETTER, WHY DID I LISTEN? So I went searching for someone who wouldn’t see me as an obstacle — and found Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. On July 31, I underwent a massive surgery via sternotomy and thoracotomy. They removed my thymus, tumors, lung lining, and parts of my lungs. Recovery was and is brutal. Six months later, I’m still healing — with long-term side effects from chemo that changed my life forever. I know chemo helps some people. This is not everyone’s story. But this is mine. If something feels wrong in your body, push. If you’re dismissed, keep going. If you’re told there are no options — look again. You are not an obstacle. You are worth fighting for. 🤍 #myastheniagravis #stage4cancer #cancerjourney #chemotherapy #chemohair

You won’t believe it…. I was 31 years old, living my life like everything was fine. I was working, training, and staying active. At first, I thought it was just digestive issues, but it didn’t go away. Over time, it started getting worse. I had constant diarrhea. I was dealing with severe abdominal cramping. I started losing weight without trying. I felt constant fatigue, and I lost my appetite. None of it made sense. The pain got so bad that I ended up in urgent care and even the ER trying to figure out what was going on. Because of how active I am, doctors even thought it could be an abdominal strain from training. But I knew something wasn’t right. At 31 years old, I was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. Looking back, those symptoms were signs that something much bigger was happening. Colon cancer in young adults is rising, and it is important that you do not ignore your body. That is why awareness matters. #coloncancer #coloncancerawareness #stage4cancer #youngcancerpatient #cancerjourney
