Swimming requires both rotational, anti-rotational core strength. So it’s important that we use both of those exercises on dryland to develop a better balanced core.
Great rule of thumb is for every non-rotational core exercise, You do include a rotational core exercise along with it.
Some examples of rotational core strength are alternating the ups, rotational med ball throws, rotational side planks, banded chops, and Russian twists.
