THDespite tough U.S. export restrictions, over $1 billion worth of NVIDIA's advanced B200 AI chips have reportedly been smuggled into China. Since the April 2025 ban on AI chips like the H20, a black market has flourished, with sellers openly listing GPUs on platforms such as Douyin (China’s TikTok). These chips are now powering Chinese AI data centers, though without official warranties or support.
NVIDIA has denied any involvement, but experts argue that the ban may have backfired — driving chip trade underground and speeding up China’s efforts to build its own chip industry, casting doubt on how effective such export controls really are.
