#rp @4dmvkids Read me | Things-to-do at Anacostia Park in Washington, DC 🌳 SO many things-to-do at Anacostia Park, which is located across the river from Yards Park/Navy Yard activities & literally down the street from historic sites like the Frederick Douglass House & Anacostia Community Museum. Here’s more info about two features of the park: 1⃣ Aquatic Resources Education Center (AREC) Did you know there’s an environmental education center at Anacostia Park that is home to a 25 year old turtle!? This gem is located next to the skating pavilion and is open from Tuesday - Friday. Walk-in visitors can visit Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 1pm and 3pm. There are more than 40 species of a variety of aquatic plants, fish, invertebrates, amphibians and reptiles there. The staff is super friendly and also gave us a quick tour of the center during the walk-in hours. 2⃣ Pirate Playground This is one of the most unique playgrounds of DC! Located right at the entrance to Anacostia park, this playground also has fitness equipment surrounding it and park benches. The restrooms were not functioning when we last went but there’s a recreation center nearby! 📌 I know I wrote about this playground before and someone mentioned safety. As with any playground, be sure to always keep a watchful eye but we didn’t have any issues when we went. Again, these are only two of many things to do at Anacostia Park. There’s rolling skating, trails, fishing, a recreation center & swimming pool!
