ECDay 40: Think Outside the Box 📦♻️
One thing I’ve learned on my sustainability journey is that something in the “right” bin isn’t always the best option. Just because you are sorting your waste correctly, doesn’t mean you are using your items to their fullest potential!
My favourite “think outside the box” moment was when my parents were decluttering my grandparents’ home. There was so much mismatched crockery, and we knew it wouldn’t sell at an op shop. Instead of sending it all off to be disposed of, I suggested they contact a smash room like @thesmashroomau to see if they’d take it, and they did.
Once you start thinking about other solutions, you kind of can’t stop.
This year for me, that’s looked like:
📚 Building my own street library to help recirculate pre-loved books @streetlibraryau
🧀 Attending a cheeseboard workshop and making a board from reclaimed wood @ashbuiltcustoms
🧴 Refilling my cleaning products instead of buying new bottles @rovingrefillsfrankston
Reducing waste doesn’t always mean going without, sometimes it just means slowing down and asking, is there another option?
The more often you think outside the box, the easier it becomes… and I find that it makes sustainable living way more fun too. 🌱
How do you think outside the box when it comes to low-waste living? 💭
