KAHow to get started as a travel writer? 🖋️
So many people are searching for a way to earn money online. Travel writing was my key to being able to continue travelling whilst earning money at the same time. 💰
But starting can be daunting, overwhelming and you’re not quite sure where to start.
So here are some tips to get you started:
💻 Make sure you have a great example of your work! Even if you’ve never actually had your work published, having an example of a travel guide or article is a great way to showcase your writing.
🌍 Do some research. Look online at what travel companies you’d like to work for. See if they have a blog section and then follow the next tip.
🔗 If you can’t find a contact for the person in charge of the blog, do some stalking on LinkedIn. This is how I got my last writing job. Don’t be afraid to send them a message.
✍️ Write an introduction that gets to the point, tells them exactly what you want and what you have to offer. The messages I sent were very informal and short, but it worked. Make sure to include your example piece.
💡 You can also use websites like Fiverr and Upwork to advertise your travel writing services. To get your first gig, try to price lower than most other people so you increase your chances of getting to job. You can increase your prices once you’ve got a bit of experience.
