Das United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) wird künftig zentrale Funktionen in Bonn ansiedeln. Die intensiven Gespräche der vergangenen Monate haben sich für Bonn ausgezahlt. Bonn hat nicht mit Symbolik überzeugt, sondern mit echter Stärke: mit Verlässlichkeit, internationaler Vernetzung und einem Standort, der international attraktiv ist. Das ist ein Erfolg aller Bonner und Bonnerinnen. UNDP ist die weltweit wichtigste Organisation der Vereinten Nationen im Bereich der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit. Mit einem Jahresbudget von rund 5 Milliarden US-Dollar und Aktivitäten in rund 170 Ländern kommt damit ein internationales Schwergewicht nach Bonn. Die Ansiedlung stärkt die Bundesstadt nachhaltig als global anerkannten Standort der Vereinten Nationen. Zugleich gewinnt Deutschland eine noch stärkere Rolle in jener Institution, die weltweit daran arbeitet, Armut zu überwinden, nachhaltige Prosperität zu ermöglichen und den Schutz unseres Planeten mit wirtschaftlicher Entwicklung zu verbinden. Die Entscheidung für Bonn ist ein starkes Signal für den internationalen UN-Standort Deutschland und für unsere Stadt. Mit UNDP gewinnt Bonn weiter an globaler Bedeutung, fachlich, politisch und strategisch. Das unterstreicht, wie wichtig der UN-Standort Bonn auch im Rahmen der Bonn-Berlin-Vereinbarung ist.

As a teen, she partnered with UNICEF to organize Jamaica’s Candlelight Vigils in support of the “Convention on the Rights of the Child.” At just 18, Lisa was appointed one of the youngest UNDP Goodwill Ambassadors—recognition of her deep commitment to community service—all before earning the title of Miss World 1993.
