We asked our friends at the First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria why they're walking for truth and they had some deadly reasons!
Everyone is invited to join the Walk for Truth. It will be a powerful way to build shared understanding of the truths Yoorrook has heard, talking together about our history, while walking together for a better shared future. For First Peoples and all Victorians.
Starting on Sunday 25 May on Gunditjmara Country at Portland, the Walk will travel through communities including Warrnambool, Colac, Geelong and Footscray, finishing at Parliament House on Wednesday 18 June.
Along the way there will be opportunities for people to join the Walk and attend community events in each leg. To find out more, including dates and details of specific legs and community events, register to join or support the Walk for Truth. Join for as little or as much as you can!

GEWalking alongside @travis__lovett today on the #WalkForTruth was deeply moving. It was a chance to stand together with the community as the commissioner nears the end of an incredible journey, carrying not just the final report of the Yoorrook Justice Commission but also message sticks gifted by Elders and communities along the way.
This walk is about truth telling in both a contemporary and cultural way, honouring the voices, stories and knowledge of First Peoples.
We paused along the way to hear reflections by Wurundjeri elders on the legacy of William Cooper, a remarkable Yorta Yorta leader and activist. The seat of Cooper was named in his honour, and as the member for Cooper, hearing reflections on his spirit of determination and courage in the fight for truth and justice as well as the importance of caring for country made this moment feel all the more meaningful.
Tomorrow, Commissioner Lovett of the @yoorrook Justice Commission will take the final steps of his journey and deliver the report to the state government. If you are able to join him, I encourage you to be part of this powerful moment. He will be leaving from the Sidney Myer Music Bowl at 8.30am. ELHundreds joined the #WalkForTruth on Sunday, in solidarity with Commissioner Travis Lovett and the Yoorrook Justice Commission’s call to confront the truth of our shared history and to learn from it.
Commissioner Lovett's 400km+ walk across Victoria will end on Wednesday at the steps of Parliament, where Yoorrook’s final report will soon be delivered.
The Greens will continue to join First Nations people in the call for truth, justice, and a better future for all of us.
