ACOne Thing Fighters Get Wrong About Water Cuts
Send this to a fighter you know cuts water !!
Most fighters focus on dropping weight but don’t pay enough attention to their sweat rate – and that’s where things go wrong.
Sweat isn’t just about shedding water weight. It’s your body’s way of keeping you cool and managing hydration. If it stops, that’s a serious red flag.
What should happen in a good cut?
- You keep sweating even after wiping it away.
-Sweat appears consistently every 30-60 seconds.
-Your body reacts to heat by sweating more.
If sweat slows down or stops, here’s why that’s a problem:
-Your body might have pushed too much fluid out, leading to severe dehydration.
-Your core temperature may have climbed too high, forcing your body to shut down sweating to protect itself and its vital organs
The more water you lose at this stage, the harder it will be to rehydrate in time for the fight.
What to do if sweat stops:
- Reassess the situation , potentially end the cut as it could of gone too far
-Wipe off sweat at regular points to check if it's still coming off
-Use ice packs or cool towels to bring your body temp down slightly
-Use appropriate strategies to re stimulate sweating
-Take small sips of electrolytes to help rebalance hydration.
A water cut isn’t just about suffering through heat and sweat. It’s about doing it the right way so your body is still functioning when it’s time to fight.
Ignore the signs, and you’re asking for trouble.
I do not advocate for water cuts the best water cut is no water cut at all for the longevity of a fighter's career. But knowing they do them anyway making sure it's the safest way possible is the highest priority.
