JURaw honey is wildly interesting! 🍯🧪
When we look at the research, honey has real antimicrobial activity, meaning it can help inhibit the growth of certain bacteria and fungi in lab settings.
Here is one science study that made me do a double take 👇
A 2021 lab study tested unprocessed local honey against multiple Candida species, including Candida auris. The researchers found that honey could significantly inhibit Candida growth.
So how can honey act “antibiotic and antifungal” without being an antibiotic?
It is a perfect storm of natural defenses:
🍯 Very low water activity, microbes struggle to survive
🧪 Naturally acidic pH
✨ Honey can generate hydrogen peroxide
🌿 Plant polyphenols plus bee derived compounds add extra antimicrobial action
FYI- I am not saying that we should treat serious infections with honey. If we need medical care, we get medical care. Honey is supportive, not a substitute. 🙏
Safety note:
🚫 no honey for babies under 12 months
