BEUsing a slightly refined version of how I was taught to lace wheels over 30yrs ago.
On the rear, I lace the drive side first, and on the front I lace the disc side first (usually the side with less dish)
Then I "zero" the spokes (cover the threads with the nipple) this enables me to check spoke length/dish will be correct without lacing the whole wheel, and can save you a lot of time when spoke lengths aren't correct.
I prefer not to use pre loctited nipples or spoke prep.
I prefer to wait until I know the spoke lengths are correct, I'm happy with the rim and spoke tension, before I finish the wheel by applying blue mid strength loctite to the top of the nipple and spinning it into the threads.
This loctite method only penetrates the first 4-5 threads, which seals and prevents water ingress, prevents nipples from coming loose in the event of a dent/flat spot (alloy rims), but still enables you to true the wheel years down the track. I refuse to use alloy nipples.

STIf you build different rims & hubs the spoke length is always different. You may wonder how many times the spoke nipples need to be twisted. There is no said amount of times. The wheel builder has to figure this out from experience.
Imagine if the hub is a circle and the rim is a circle, which they are. All the holes are equal amount of distance from each other. Hypothetically if you tighten up all the spokes the same amount it will make them all the same length. If they are all the same length they will make the rim straight & circle. This is a great place to start before fine tuning the rim.
When you tension the rim some will be tightened more than others. Keep practicing and your skills will improve.

GRI tried wheel truing for the first time! 🎉
There were so many things to consider, like vertical and lateral runout, centering, bedding in, and spoke tension—it was quite a challenge, 😂.
Especially after adjusting for vertical runout, finding the method to adjust for lateral runout while considering the vertical adjustments was difficult!
When centering or adjusting for vertical or lateral runout, there are ways to do it, but mistakes can make the runout worse, so you must handle each step carefully to get closer to the goal 😮.
In the second round, I hardly needed to adjust the centering or vertical runout; I just fine-tuned the lateral runout, and it turned out quite well!
In the end, I compromised a bit; visually, the runout was between 0.5mm to 1mm 🤣.
The wheels I hand-built this time will be converted to tubeless. Stay tuned! 💪
