ICWe already know from previous studies that Wim Hof Method practice can bring down inflammation, and as such help manage a wide range of health conditions. A group of scientists from Radboud University Medical Center in the Netherlands have now also discovered that breathing and cold exposure have a direct so-called analgesic, or pain-relieving effect. 🔬🧘♂️❄️
This study builds upon previous research conducted in 2016 and 2013, which demonstrated that healthy individuals who practiced the Wim Hof Method could consciously activate their sympathetic nervous system and decrease the inflammatory response to endotoxemia. 📉
This new study specifically focused on whether the WHM breathing exercises and cold exposure could affect pain perception. 🔍
The results showed that the breathing exercises effectively reduced pain perception (induced by electrical stimulus), lasting for at least four hours. 🌬️
Moreover, the groups that received either cold exposure training or both breathing and cold exposure, perceived less pain after having their hands submerged in water for several minutes. 🧊
