ALSAY HI TO OUR LIVING ROOM!!! the first finished room in the house and it feels so good! and could never have happened without @thehavenly, i worked with the sweetest designer (👋 @camila.interiors) who helped me come up with such a beautiful and totally grownup room design!
after we agreed on the final design, she gave me a shopping list so i was able to get everything all in one place which made the process like 800x faster?! i still need to order window shades and the ottomans but omggg i’m so excited to have a room done before the holidays. can you imagine a christmas tree in here?!?! 🌞 Your HVAC may be working overtime, set the thermostat to 78 degrees or higher to save on your bill.

CIWindow Shades Explained! 👇🏻
Save this post next time you’re buying window shades. There are different control mechanisms to choose from—and lots of factors to consider when deciding!
We have three different types of @everhem shades in our home. Here’s why we chose each one:
1. Cord Lock: This is the most common and straightforward option. Pros: It costs the least, and it can be used with even windows that have a shallow depth. The depth of our small windows in the primary bedroom was def the deciding factor, they were too shallow for anything else! Cons of cord lock? The cords can be annoying to fuss with, especially when there are 4 windows in a row to operate, and my kid LOVES to play with them when I forget to tie them up using the little cleats mounted inside the frame.
2. Cordless: The happy medium between cord lock and motorized. Pros: The price is relatively accessible, and you have the ease of no cords to deal with. As you can see, I just lift the shade with my hand and a built-in spring lock keeps it up. Cons: You need at least 2.75” of mounting depth for this style. Thankfully these windows had that depth, and since it’s just two windows in a home office, I didn’t feel the need to splurge for motorized.
3. Motorized: Pros: Definitely the easiest to operate! Press a button and voila! Cons: Can cost more than twice that of the other options. And again, you need a certain window depth to fit the electric mechanism that controls these. In my daughter’s room we sprung for it because there are FOUR windows, and I wanted the ease of being able to control them all at once with the remote. Anything to make bedtime easier!
There’s also a 4th option, chain loop, which just like it sounds is a continuous loop mechanism to manually open and close the shades. Price wise it’s just above cord lock. Aesthetically, it’s def a “look” so it’s not my personal fave.
One final note! Our @everhem shades are all woven wood (color seashell in the primary bedroom, khaki in the office + Halo’s room) but the same control options apply to fabric shades too.

JALots of questions re set up of our van.. so will start collecting them to show you. Here is the front seat bed. We have a standard Merc Sprinter van conversion.
1. We went to @clark.rubber and they custom made a mattress to suit the exact shape of the seats.
2. Standard single sheet covers
3. Window shades from @livinginabubble.co that make the whole area dark. Magnetic to the windows!!
4. Self made curtains behind the driver seat to section this area off
5. We cover the steering wheel with an oodie (still working on a more permanent solution)
6. At night we store the 'day bags' in the footwells for more support and to have them out of the van.
We sleep the twins here as then they can go to bed earlier than the rest of us in a quiet(er) dark area. It could easily sleep a shorter adult or mid teen.

KRA room upgrade surprise! India came home from college for Thanksgiving break and we had a little surprise in her room - a new automatic shade from @smartwingshome. They reached out to me offering us to try their motorized shades, and I was thrilled because the window shades in my kids room have long been a problem. We had cheap shades from a local hardware store that I bought when the kids were babies. They were looking tired and were always a pain to pull up and down, because of the width of the window. These new SmartWing shades go up and down with the touch of a button. I let each kid pick the fabric for their room. Karis went with a linen white, India went with a linen gray, and Kembe did a woven tan. They all look great, and let in a nice filtered light while offering privacy from the outside. I was actually so impressed with the quality and how easy they are to operate, that I ordered more for the living room.
