One thing I tell educators all the time is this. Curriculum writing is a real skill. It is not something people are just magically born knowing how to do. And the truth is, many educators want to step into curriculum work, consulting, or district leadership, but no one has ever shown them how to actually write curriculum in a structured way. That is exactly why I created the DOPE MATH® Curriculum Writing Intensive. Over two days, we are going to walk through what curriculum writing actually looks like. We talk about the macro level. The way districts think about curriculum systems. We talk about standards alignment. We talk about how lessons actually connect to the bigger instructional picture. And then we do something most professional development never gives you time to do. We write. You will literally sit down and begin building curriculum with guidance so you can leave with a stronger understanding of how this work is done. If you are an educator who has been wanting to move deeper into curriculum work, leadership, or instructional design, this is a space to sharpen that skill. Comment INTENSIVE and I will send you the details. #dopematheducator #curriculumwriting #matheducation #teacherleadership #instructionaldesign

🤣 Mark my words. We will keep spinning in circles as long as we are doing a million different things with zero cohesion and zero end in mind. More programs does not equal better results. ❗ More small group does not equal better results. 🧠 What actually moves literacy? ✨ Streamlining. ✨ Alignment. ✨ A cohesive, clear, and coherent approach to Tier 1. 🏫 And most importantly…giving teachers the space to actually teach whole-group instruction rigorously and well. Not juggling five scopes and sequences. Not piecing together disconnected parts. Not guessing what matters most. 📚 Just strong, intentional, COLLECTIVE teaching that builds over time. Because when Tier 1 is done right, everything changes. Staci Bain, Ed.D. Often sentence-level revision feels daunting for middle and high schoolers, because they lack the tools they need to revise individual sentences with purpose. Teach students about sentence-level revision with this simple, repeatable protocol that you can use across the week! ⭐Start with a simple and vague sentence that the whole class can access and revise. ✍️ Invite students to write the starter sentence and each subsequent revised sentence on the same page, so they can trace its transformation. 💡Introduce a new sentence-level revision strategy each day. 📝Provide students time to apply new revision strategies to their writing. 🤪 And then we wonder why students are not comprehending what they read. 🤪 And then we wonder why students “don’t have anything to write about.” 🤪 And then we wonder why we have a bunch of word callers. 📣 For the last 6 years, I have been sounding this alarm 📲 On social media 🏫 During onsite trainings 💻 During virtual trainings 📚 In my new book 👂 And to anyone with ears to hear and an openness to understand 💔 This has been painful to watch. 🚨 We have positioned teachers and school leaders in deeply troubling ways. 📌 So let me say it again. 📚 Reading is more than reading words accurately and fluently. ✔️ Yes, decoding is critical. ❗ And also yes, decoding is completely insufficient on its own. 🧠 Reading well means students can make meaning. 🗣️ It means they have the vocabulary to access what they are reading. 🧩 It means they have the syntax knowledge to navigate complex sentence structures. ✍️ It means they have the oral language and writing strength to communicate what they understood. 🧠📚 It means learning is cohesive, clear, and coherent over time. 🚫 Not random. 🚫 Not fragmented. 🚫 Not disconnected. 🚫 Not through a million moving parts that never build toward anything meaningful. ⚠️ What is popular is not always right. 🧭 And following the crowd will not always take you where you say you want students to go. 💛 To those who have been on this comprehensive Tier 1 journey with me for the last 6 years…thank you. 🫶 You have helped keep me sane in an educational ecosystem that too often elevates programs over providing people with a comprehensive approach—and then acts shocked by the results. 🎯 Bad results are by design. 🧠 Remember that. Is writing block really worth it in the lead up to test season? Teachers often share with me how overwhelming the writing block can feel—especially with testing around the corner. Mission accomplished. You were worth the investment. 💛 I wanted to become a better writer for you. 🦄 For the teacher reading after dismissal. 🦄 For the principal KNOWING that if we just made a few tweaks, we could have a smoother, more effective MTSS/Tier 1 approach. 🦄 For the team who just needed someone to finally make it make sense. So yes — I invested the time. The energy. The brain space. The funds spent on a writing coach so these pages could be clearer, stronger, and more usable in real classrooms. And here’s the truth: 🙌🏽 YOU (and your teams) implementing what’s in Chapters 3, 4, and 5 is one of the biggest honors of my life. 🥹📚 🎉 Thank you for believing in your teaching and leadership prowess. 🎉 Thank you for knowing we can actually make sense of the Tier 1 literacy block. 🎉 And thank you for choosing the boldest option of all: WE are going to save ourselves. 🚫 It doesn’t require more stuff. 📍 Literacy transformation begins with you and your moves to make the literacy block clear, cohesive, and coherent. 🪴 Less is more. 📧 The continual DMs + emails telling me this book gave you what you needed to move forward? THANK YOU!!! 💥 Your SoR/Structured Literacy implementation in a doable manner IS the mission. 💯 Teachers and leaders change lives. 📙 This Tier 1 elementary (K–5) playbook in your hands for less than a bag of groceries (in Seattle) helps me wake up each morning knowing we’re on the right side of history — and absolutely unstoppable together. Slay on. I’m here for it. 🦄🔥 You all are the real MVPs. Staci Bain, Ed.D. Narrative writing becomes much stronger when students learn to zoom in on one small moment. One common problem is that students try to summarize the entire story instead of slowing down a specific moment. One strategy that works really well is BA-DA-DA-BING. Students expand their writing by adding: 👣 Movement 👀 What they see 👂 What they hear 💭 What they are thinking This simple structure helps students turn a small moment into a clear, detailed narrative scene. 📌 Save this strategy for your next writing lesson. These past few weeks have been full. From conferences to consulting visits, from workshops to hallway conversations with educators who are hungry to do better for students, the message has been consistent. Educators want stronger curriculum. Real curriculum design that helps students think, reason, and see themselves in mathematics. That is exactly why I created the DOPE MATH® Curriculum Writing Intensive. For two days we slow down and do the work most professional development never gives you time to do. We talk about standards, systems, and instructional clarity. And then we actually sit down and begin writing. If you are ready to sharpen your curriculum writing skills and think differently about how lessons are designed, this space was created for you. I walked into a session room at the @midschoolmath conference and saw a reflection written on the board from a workshop earlier in the day. It said the session was engaging. That the strategies pushed people to think. That the structured language routines made them slow down and really use academic language. And I had to pause. Because moments like that remind me why this work matters. When I got to college, my math experience did not match my brilliance. The systems failed me in ways that could have been prevented if someone had taken the time to design instruction differently. That reality stays with me. So when I step into rooms with educators, whether it is a conference session or a curriculum conversation, I am always thinking about the students who will experience the lessons we design. This work is bigger than a workshop. It is about making sure fewer students fall through the cracks simply because the curriculum was never written with them in mind. That is exactly why I created the DOPE MATH® Curriculum Writing Intensive. Because strong teaching deserves strong curriculum behind it. If you are ready to think differently about how lessons are designed and how rigor actually lives in the classroom, this space is for you. Comment INTENSIVE and I will send you the details. #dopematheducator #curriculumwriting #matheducation #teacherleadership #instructionaldesign
