Please Stop Telling Disabled Folks… Video description: this video starts with Spencer talking directly to the camera. He then reenacts a moment that he had recently out in the community. Spencer is seen getting out of his wheelchair and walking on his hands towards the camera. Then it cuts to Spencer dressed in a jean shirt, which is halfway in buttoned wearing a red and white bass pro trucker hat. Spencer is then seen as himself back in front of the camera debriefing this whole scenario. Even while educating, Spencer looks handsome. #disability #ableism #stop #education #disabled #FYI

‼️EDIT‼️ please see my most recent post for more context, examples, and to learn what these are used for! This post is specifically about the abled people sharing one of these things, for example the bagel slicer, and saying, "wow, y'all are so lazy. Grow up and just use a knife!" who then continue to double down when they are corrected by disabled people. It happens every day and it's exhausting. We try to educate these people. They don't care enough to listen. Disabled people exist. #disabled #disability #disabilitytiktok #ableism #fyp

“I would never judge someone for being disabled!!!” 😰 also them: *proceeds to judge people for having disabled traits* 🙄 no, you won’t always know when someone is disabled or not, so making insults about someone’s capabilities, employment status, intelligence, and much more…will always be rooted in ableist beliefs regardless of your intention! 👋 #ableism #autisticadults #disabled #disabiltyawareness #autisticmemes

Not because we want to be, but because we’ve grown up in a world that normalizes ableism at every turn. It’s in our schools, workplaces, media, language, and even in the way our cities are built. Being ableist doesn’t always mean being cruel. It can mean assuming someone should communicate, move, or learn a certain way without even realizing it. The truth is, we’ve all internalized these biases. What matters isn’t denying it... it’s noticing it, unlearning it, and doing better. Ableism is everywhere. But so is the opportunity to challenge it. #autism #autistic #disabilityadvocacy #ableism #mentalhealth #autismawareness #autismacceptance #unlearning #ableismawareness #disabled

LANGUAGE MATTERS 👀 It’s not the only thing that matters- not at all. But language communicates underlying attitudes and beliefs. What’s often underneath language when it comes to disability is ableism. I’m tired of reading an article that says a disabled person suffers from their disability. That shouldn’t be the default assumption- let the disabled person share if they’re suffering. Oftentimes, our challenges are not due to being disabled but ARE due to living in an ableist society that doesn’t support or include us. I want all writers to use neutral, non-ableist language when writing about disability. Don’t you? Share with anyone who needs to know. ✅ Text boxes: 🚨 CHANGE THIS LANGUAGE 🚨 She suffers from Usher syndrome. She HAS Usher syndrome. Use neutral, non-ableist language ✅ I’m deafblind and I’m NOT suffering. Share with anyone who writes 👀 Video Description: Catarina, a light-skinned Latiné woman with dark brown wavy hair, is wearing an olive jumpsuit, black sneakers, animal print blazer, and sunglasses. She’s salsa dancing joyfully with her white cane in front of colorful graffiti art in the street of downtown New York City. She points her feet, throws up her arms, kicks, and smiles. She walks off camera at the end. Text boxes with black background and white text appear at top. A red X appears and covers the word “suffers”. Instrumental salsa music plays in background. #Ableism #AbleismIsTrash #Disability #UsherSyndrome #DisabilityAwareness #BlindishLatina

THIS ISN’T AN OLD STORY. Disabled children and adults were institutionalized and hidden away in Canada and the U.S. until 2009. Families were told it was “better this way.” Today we say inclusion matters… until disability is visible. Until it makes people uncomfortable. Inclusion that disappears the moment you look away isn’t inclusion at all. #disabilityawareness #inclusionmatters #specialneedsparenting #ableism #representation

And before anyone points out how I didn’t tic much, I don’t tic when I’m angry. this is absolutely something I never wanted to address publicly, but it’s getting out of hand. People are not only attacking me, but attacking my boyfriend, the only person who has ever attempted to understand and love me. Typically I would never make a video like this, but this is ridiculous. #sh4ysgrwm #tourettes #tics #ableism
