‘Get Served’ As a new interpretation of a ‘Rothcourt’ I wanted to employ the colours of Wimbledon to create this artwork. A vintage green, deep purple and burnt white create what seems to be an abstracted tennis court with a composition similar to the colour field paintings of Rothko. Those things, coupled with a balance in the tiny tennis players painted with fine brushes give this artwork a very calm feeling. It’s for that reason why I chose to have the figures themselves calm too. One is waiting to be served while the other is mid action. They’re frozen, static but there is still the tension of possibility. This was made as part of my ‘Singles’ exhibition in London last year around the same time as the Wimbledon Finals, making this artwork and that collection very timely yet timeless. ‘Get Served’ Acrylic Polymer on Canvas 42 x 32cm #wernerbronkhorst #getserved #singlescollection

‘Top Shot’ was a new attempt at creating an abstracted tennis court with as few strokes of paint as possible. Just three to be exact. I’m always trying to show our world in new ways. Ways that perhaps might not make sense or perhaps won’t be practical but one that still looks as calming or interesting as a real court seen from above. This was one of the most loved pieces at my ‘Singles’ exhibition in London last year and I guess only now I realise why- it’s very different from my normal work! ‘Top Shot’ Acrylic Polymer on Canvas #wernerbronkhorst #singlescollection #topshot

The display includes a continuation of  Ligon’s  Stranger paintings, a new abstracted series entitled Static paintings and a series of untitled drawings on Kozo paper.
