When accommodations are ignored or dismissed, we aren’t just making things ‘a little harder’—we’re creating an unequal testing environment. Accommodations don’t give students an unfair advantage. They level the playing field. ⚖️ A student who needs extra time isn’t ‘lucky’—they need it because their processing speed, reading ability, or executive functioning impacts their test performance. A student who requires a quiet setting isn’t being ‘babied’—they need it to regulate their attention and focus. If we’re not providing the accommodations, we’re not truly assessing what the student knows. And that’s a big problem. 🚨 Sometimes students do not want to use their accommodations and that’s important information too! They should always be part of the process when it comes to changing their plans in ways that work for them. Documenting these moments are important because when we sit down to review their plans we can bring data to support that this accommodation is no longer serving their need.
