JOgettin sh!t done is not a reliable game for me as a neurodivergent person.
some days, i have a ton of energy and focus. others, i’m running on absolutely zero with no foreseeable way (or desire) to recharge that battery.
but the hardest days are the days in between, when i have a lot of energy, but no way to focus it. it’s confusing, overwhelming, and i don’t know where to start.
THAT’S when i call in my “gettin sh!t done hat.” i put on the hat, and suddenly, i have clarity, can make decisions more easily, and know when i need a break. it’s not me, it’s the hat!
i don’t try to make the GSD Hat work for me on zero energy days, but when i need a boost of clarity and motivation, the hat works. every time.
the funny thing is, i made this post, and THEN came across this clip by @learnedpsychology, (via @molly.balint !) so i feel validated that something i was already doing to accommodate myself is backed by science! i learned this is called an anchor, read more about it on @learnedpsychology ‘s post ⚓️
not every accommodation needs to be bolstered by science in order to have a positive impact on our quality of life, but it made me feel good that i had come to something on my own that psychologists agree is a helpful tool!

THWhen someone decides not to give a student their testing accommodations because ‘they don’t really need them’… excuse me?! 🤯🚩
Accommodations aren’t a favor—they’re a legal right. 📝 Under IDEA and Section 504, students with disabilities are entitled to supports that remove barriers, allowing them to access and demonstrate their learning just like their peers. When accommodations are ignored or dismissed, we aren’t just making things ‘a little harder’—we’re creating an unequal testing environment.
Accommodations don’t give students an unfair advantage. They level the playing field. ⚖️ A student who needs extra time isn’t ‘lucky’—they need it because their processing speed, reading ability, or executive functioning impacts their test performance. A student who requires a quiet setting isn’t being ‘babied’—they need it to regulate their attention and focus.
If we’re not providing the accommodations, we’re not truly assessing what the student knows. And that’s a big problem. 🚨
Sometimes students do not want to use their accommodations and that’s important information too! They should always be part of the process when it comes to changing their plans in ways that work for them. Documenting these moments are important because when we sit down to review their plans we can bring data to support that this accommodation is no longer serving their need. WIAccommodation is the bare minimum of being a a friend to someone with a disability (visible or not). This goes for family as well.
It is our job as disabled people to be as prepared as possible. However, there are ALWAYS going to be things we CANNOT account for no matter how much we plan. Living with any type of disability is HARD, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have people that stand by us no matter what.
It is not selfish to need accommodations for something a healthy person can easily do.

CAMeltdowns don’t always happen on impact… they often build over time. Ordering food didn’t cause my meltdown…
But the additional task on TOP of all the overstimulation, pain, tiredness etc was finally too much to take. Executive function depleted. Sensory overwhelm commence.
An important disclaimer: I have fairly low support needs as an autistic person. Someone with higher support needs might have a different experience and that is *very okay* You might also have a different experience as a LSN autistic.

JILast Sunday was not what we expected, which it was disappointed with our vacation plan for family at Universal Studios Hollywood.
We bring my grandma who is 84 yrs old and have two total knee replacement, which is she will need handicap parking that closer to the Universal Studios Hollywood. The day when we arrived at the Universal Studios Hollywood, we were told by the park attendant that handicap parkings are at the E.T. Parking lot, which it is at end of the Citywalk. We knew that is too far for my grandma walk to get there at the Universal Studios Hollywood.
Park attendant told us that if we are willing to pay additional $20 for get to closer handicap parkings by the Universal Studios Hollywood. We paid for it.
Unfortunately, another park attendants are not let us to park at the front gate that where the handicap parkings are. They stated that what we paid is for Frankenstein parking. We knew that Frankenstein parking is too far for my grandma. We asked them that if we can drop grandma off at the front gate, which it is best for my grandma to walk closer to the theme park so she can rent ECV.
They REFUSED let us drop my grandma off at the front gate. We have to drive to Frankenstein parking and what we notice that there are no handicap parking at the lot. We learned that Frankenstein parking is for preferred parking. All spots are too narrows that my grandma cannot get out of car, which it is already cramp her knees.
When we get closer to the exit after park attendant let us to park there, my grandma hit over 120 heart rate, which it requested for wheelchair to get around the front gate. We saw there are some handicap parking open spots at the front gate.
We went to the guest relations to file complaint about that situation. They stated that for $75, they would let us to park at the handicap parking by front gate, which it was not give options for what we paid for it.
