If your work isn’t landing the way you know it can, our FREE Acting Masterclass breaks down how to make your screen performance read instantly. Learn how to bring life to your words on camera. When I say an actor is “ready to work professionally,” I’m not talking about talent, range, or how impressive they are in class. I’m talking about behaviour. The quiet, consistent choices that make people want to work with you again. Here are four I notice immediately: ✨ They arrive prepared and flexible. They know the work, but they’re not rigid. They can adjust without panic or defensiveness. ✨ They listen before they act. They allow the moment to reach them fully before responding. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is pre-planned. ✨ They stay grounded when things go off-plan. A missed line, a note, a change and they remain present. That steadiness builds enormous trust. ✨ They understand it’s bigger than them. They respect time, process, and the people around them. They know the work isn’t about being the centre, it’s about serving the story. None of this is flashy. But together, it’s what separates actors who feel good in class from actors who work consistently in the industry. 💬 Which of these do you feel strongest in right now? Most actors get stuck when a character does something they would never do. 🤔 Margot Robbie explains that you don’t have to relate to what your character does. You just have to understand why they would do it. Try this in your next audition or scene 👇🏼 - 🎭 Start from the reaction: If a moment feels confusing, ask what must’ve happened in their past for this to feel justified. - 🧠 Create a private backstory: Invent experiences that emotionally explain their behavior. - 💔 Build invisible stakes: The audience won’t know the history, but you’ll feel it in every line. - 🗣 Load certain words with meaning: Decide why specific phrases or actions hit a nerve for them. - 🎬 Remove your personal judgment: Once you stop thinking “I wouldn’t do that,” the performance becomes truthful. Takeaway: The difference between a flat performance and a powerful one is the inner life you build that no one else can see. When the character’s behavior feels inevitable to you, it becomes undeniable to the audience. 💭🎬 Comment AUDITION for a free audition cheat sheet to help you break down your next role. 📋 #actor #actingclass #actingschool #actingtips #actingadvice #actingcoach #aspiringactor #theactorscampus #acting

1. Vets Listen, Young Actors Perform YA’s are focused on what they’re doing. How they look. How they sound. Etc. Vets are focused on what the other actor is doing. They’re truly listening — their lines are just responses to what they hear. 2. Vets are prepared, Young Actors hope they are YA’s know the lines pretty well but you can see them holding on for dear life which leaves very little room for adaptation. Vets know their lines so well that they’re free to adjust, explore, and give something different every take. That way, the moment leads — not the plan. 3. Vets serve the story, Young actors serve themselves Young actors think about how they look or how they’re coming across. Veterans think about how the scene serves the story and the bigger picture. 4. Vets allow Emotion, Young Actors force it For instance, a young actor will try and force tears in a scene and be frustrated if it doesn’t happen. Vets allow the tears to happen if they do but are just honest in the moment whether the tears come or not. And for bonus points, vets often fight against the tears since that’s what real humans do. Side note: for the love of honesty, if your character wouldn’t want to show that they’re upset and a tear falls, WIPE IT AWAY! Pet peeve of mine is letting tears run down your face while you deliver a monologue or a scene. There are circumstances where humans do that but it’s pretty rare. We usually wipe them off our face. 5. Vets are ok doing nothing, Young actors aren’t YA’s often feel they have to “do something” and if they aren’t you see them start to force “acting something”.. which I promise you is a part of the take I can never use. Vets understand that sometimes the most powerful choice is doing very little. 6. Vets are ok to fail, Young actors are terrified of it YA’s try to keep everything tight and controlled which often means rigid and safe performances. Vets aren’t afraid to look messy or make mistakes — because they know that’s often where the magic lives. Plus you can always do another take or use one of the one from before! #acting #actingtips #directing

Fix Your “Broken” Voice: Part 2 🗣️🎬 Your emotional preparation is useless if the audience cannot understand your words. If you struggle with slurring, running out of breath, or a weak voice, it is time to train your most important instrument. Here are 5 more professional voice clarity exercises you can practice right from your bedroom: • Water Tongue Trills: Practice tongue trills with a glass of water to drastically improve your articulation and eliminate slurring. • Deep Belly Breathing: Lie down and focus on breathing into your stomach, not your chest. This builds the stable breath support required for powerful speech. • Breathe Before Every Line: Taking a calculated breath before you speak prevents you from rushing your delivery and swallowing your words. • Volume Control Drill: Practice delivering your dialogue at low, medium, and stage volumes without shouting or straining your throat. • Chest Resonance Test: Place a hand on your chest and start humming to physically feel and activate your lower resonance. Stop whispering your talent. Start commanding the stage. 👇 WANT A FREE SPEECH GUIDE? To perform take after take, what matters most is how you prepare… Here are a few things most actors miss 👇 1️⃣ Breathe.
Feel your feet on the floor. Connect to the ground. If you’re grounded, everything else will settle. We do our best work from a relaxed state. 2️⃣ The pressure is off.
This isn’t theatre. It’s not live. If something goes wrong, you do another take. Prioritise spontaneity and connection over “getting it right.” 3️⃣ The moment before.
What is your character experiencing just before the scene begins? A thought, a want, a physical action. Enter the scene already alive. 4️⃣ You’re not here to impress.
With the crew, lights and monitors everywhere, it can feel like a stage. It’s not. What matters is the intimate connection with the other actor and the camera. Stop performing and trust that the camera will capture your truth. 5️⃣ Find the physical state.
Where’s the tension? Where’s the ease? Do you lead with your chest, your gut, your head? Physical clarity anchors the performance. 🎯BONUS - Relationship (right now).
Not a backstory essay. Just ask:
How do I feel about this person in this moment? That’s where consistency comes from. 🎬 #actingtips #actingcoach #actingtraining #actorsofinstagram #screenacting

Balancing your Acting and your ‘normal’ job is one of the biggest challenges we face! We need to have the flexibility to learn, train, rehearse, audition and ultimately…perform! But we also need to make a living when we are not working as an actor! And in all honesty - that’s most of the time! I’ve had to balance this many times in my life! I’ve reframed it into what I call… The Business of YOU! We are 100% responsible the success and failures of our Acting Career! And sure, there are many outside factors that we can’t control. But how empowering is it to know that we have complete control of our destiny. If you’d like to learn more about the Business of You, join me in my next FREE workshop this month.
