Start with the blocks on the highest setting, then gradually lower them over time as your mobility improves. Add gentle internal & external hip rotations to release tension and engage different muscle groups. 2️⃣ Activate Before You Stretch: Before sliding deeper, hold an active stretch - press your legs into the mat, engage your muscles, and lift your arms to balance. This helps build the strength and stability needed for safe flexibility gains. 3️⃣ Gradual Extension with Control: Place a pillow under your front foot and ease into a deeper stretch while staying supported. Continue hip rotations here and keep your blocks at a comfortable height for control. 4️⃣ Full Split Practice: With consistency, you’ll gain the ability to hold your split with stability rather than just sinking into it. Remember, flexibility isn’t just about stretching, it’s about active engagement and mindful progression! ✨ Breathe through it! No, you should probably not start there, but it’s a nice weight to work up to… and beyooooond! Yes, you can use dumbbells. Active and Passive Middle Split Routine This is one of my favorite routines to improve both passive and active middle split flexibility. By using a resistance band and alternating active and passive middle split positions, we can maximize not only our range of motion but also the control we have over our legs-apart position. The idea is to continuously shift between different middle split variations, from standing to lying positions. This allows us to target different areas of the hips while properly activating the muscles responsible for opening the legs. Throughout the entire routine, focus on actively engaging your glutes and all the hip abductors. Flexibility isn’t just one thing. It’s your muscles, nervous system, and joint control working together. Stretching matters, and so does building strength at your end range — that’s how flexibility becomes usable. Try this mini sequence 2–4x/week: • Supported low lunge (open the hip flexors) • Active half split (strengthen + lengthen the hamstrings) • Slide toward your front split using blocks or partial range • At your end range, gently drag the legs toward each other to create stability • Hold and breathe Train the splits in a way that’s actually good for your body.
