SHNobody really talks about this part…
Becoming an administrator is often seen as the “next level”
the promotion
the goal
But what they don’t tell you is the job changes you, in ways you’re not always prepared for.
1. Leadership is lonely… even in a building full of people.
You can’t vent like a teacher.
You can’t fully confide in staff.
And the higher you go… the quieter it gets.
2. You’re expected to manage adults… like they’re students.
Degrees don’t equal professionalism.
You’ll coach, redirect, and hold grown people accountable daily—and still be the “bad guy.”
3. Everyone wants immediate solutions… but nobody sees the pressure behind them.
Teachers want it fixed now.
Parents want answers now.
District wants results now.
And you’re expected to deliver… instantly.
4. You’ll miss the classroom more than you expected.
The relationships.
The routine.
The control within your four walls.
There’s a different kind of fulfillment in teaching… and you feel it when it’s gone.
5. You don’t get to have “off days.”
You can be overwhelmed, exhausted, and mentally drained…
and still have to show up as calm, composed, and in control.
Be honest…
