Yesterday was a powerful day of learning, exchange, and inspiration during the #AgroecologyLearningVisit26 to @afird_uganda. We were honored to host key participants from the local governments of Soroti, Adjumani, Apac, and Amuria, who actively shared their experiences, insights, and expectations around promoting sustainable, climate-resilient agriculture in their communities. The discussions highlighted the growing importance of agroecology as a pathway to strengthen food systems, restore ecosystems, and build resilience in the face of a warming world. Participants reflected on practical approaches, local innovations, and the need for stronger collaboration to scale impact across districts. This visit is part of the Cultivating Change in a Warming World project, financially supported by @sida, and coordinated at the national level by @princ_ejjunju Oxfam in Uganda and @pelumuganda, with implementation by ESAFF Uganda and CIDI. He highlights the importance of demonstrating how agroecology can work within urban settings, even on limited land, while still generating income and supporting livelihoods. Through the visit, Jero Farm provided a space for knowledge sharing, allowing participants to learn practical approaches to sustainable farming and farmer-managed food systems. Transforming Seed Systems Through Innovation and Local Leadership Diffused Light Store (DLS) is enabling smallholder farmers to access clean, disease-free seed while building sustainable local enterprises. Through this approach, Richard Cheruiyot, a dedicated DSM and Village-Based Advisor has grown from 1,000 to 2,000 apical cuttings (valued at KSh 20,000), producing quality seed potato for farmers within his community. Specializing in Shangi varieties, he is now able to produce up to 4 tons of seed across two cycles, demonstrating the scalability of decentralized seed systems. Beyond production, he plays a key role in knowledge transfer—hosting farmers on his farm and training them on crop management, seed selection, and storage practices to drive wider adoption. Over 100 bags have already been supplied to Marishoni, with distribution ongoing. Impact: • Increased access to quality seed • Improved farmer productivity and incomes • Strengthened local seed systems and food security This is a clear example of how training, innovation, and farmer-led extension can drive sustainable agricultural transformation. #FIPSAfrica #SeedSystems #FoodSecurity #AgriInnovation #SmallFarmsBigFutures
