NAFor years I thought airplane mode was just one of those “just in case” rules.
Like, if I forget it once, nothing will happen, right?
And honestly, nothing dramatic does happen.
The plane won’t start shaking.
The pilot won’t burst into the cabin.
We’re not falling out of the sky because someone’s phone shows 5G.
But here’s the interesting part.
When your phone isn’t on airplane mode, it keeps hunting for signal.
And while the aircraft is flying very fast, your phone is basically jumping from tower to tower nonstop.
It’s working overtime.
What does that mean?
• Your battery drains faster
• Networks on the ground get overloaded
• And when hundreds of phones do this at the same time, it can create that annoying interference buzz in cockpit headsets
Is it catastrophic? No.
Is it unnecessary noise and interference? Yes.
Airplane mode isn’t about fear.
It’s about keeping communication clean and systems stable.
Now I switch it on the second I sit down and fasten my seatbelt ✈️
