ALI meant to say the facial artery turns into the Angular artery, not the transverse .
There’s so much involved in injecting filler as I explain above (briefly) only regarding the depths of arteries in best placement with a needle technique. Everyone’s anatomy varies and there are variances on every individual. We can only become better providers by knowing where most patient’s anatomy is so that we can make sound decisions on best where to place the filler to avoid complications. This is never 💯
and this is why I’m going to bring in another safety measure for ultrasound to improve the outcome, but again it’s never 100%.
Remembering products may have different indications, depths, and whether they can be used with a needle or cannula. The provider is responsible to know where to place the injectables in the face by knowing the anatomy .
Again, I stress this is not 100% guarantee, but it’s the best clinical judgment we can make . There are risks the patient needs to understand, which requires discussing it before they get injected, not just signing on an iPad.
It’s incredible how much knowledge it takes to inject. Death is just one of many. Cleansing the skin appropriately, assessing the skin initially before you inject, I always look for areas that look pale to start with, inject at the proper depth, watch the tissue rise, is the needle tip up or down, and how is the patient responding? These are just many of the things we think of! If you live in Wilmington, interested in learning how we can as a community make our patients safer, I’m embarking on a big campaign.
I now have the unique position of knowing what it’s like to be on both sides. The Lord made no mistake with this happening to me as I am currently embarking on learning ultrasound, and have added it to my practice a few months ago.
I also know that every provider’s biggest fear is having a complication to their dearest patient. It’s mine.
I also know all the things we’re doing right and there’s a lot of them!
If you want to partner up to learn everything you possibly can to help your patient navigate this type of complication, join me to know what it’s like to be on the other side!
