AP PSYCHOLOGY IS BACK FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR! 🎉 🎉🎉BEST NEWS EVER! 🎉🎉 . . If you remember back in August, 3 days before having kids in the classroom, we were told we had to change our curriculum and AP PSYCHOLOGY was BANNED in Florida. Well the ban eventually lifted but Orange County had already started the school year so the new curriculum had to stay. The students were devastated and frustrated, as some of them needed an AP class for certain scholarships and all other AP classes were full. It’s been a tough year as a teacher, basically starting from scratch, but I and other teachers made the best of it. The AICE Psychology class isn’t nearly as interesting or thorough, but the good news is, students that took AICE psychology this year can take AP Psychology next year.!! It’s a different college credit. Anyway I couldn’t be happier to teach what I love again and help prepare students for life! . . . #teacher #appsychology #psychology #psychologystudent #psychologyteacher #runningteacher #runnersofinstagram #runnerscommunity #marathontraining #lovetoteach #bestrong #dontgiveup #teacherlife #florida #orlando #runorlando #fun #rundisney #teachergram #psychology_health

This is the advice I wish I would have been given when I was young. Go against the grain. You don’t have to follow the path society tells you to follow. You don’t need to go to college, accumulate gobs of student loan debt to pursue a career that “sounds good” or pays good. My oldest is a freshman in high school which is the beginning of picking electives and starting to choose a path. I try to make sure he knows…do what makes you happy. College does not have to be a requirement. You don’t have a choose a particular path that has a certain status. Take the classes that truly interest you versus an AP class for knowledge you’ll never use. You don’t need a high powered career in your 20s. You need to go live life. Try a million things and see what lights you up and what doesn’t. Find what makes you happy. What you would do for free. And make a career out of THAT! Guess this is more of a post for my boys. 🤷‍♀️ But it took me 20-30 years to create a career that lights me up and if I could save them all those years, that would be incredible.

Junior year, I thought doing everything would impress colleges: > Joining every club > Taking every AP class > Hoping it all magically worked out But by senior year, I realized I had no clear story—no way to stand out. That’s when I discovered the one thing that changed everything: a value-based theme. The College Board has removed the names of Black writers and scholars from its Advanced Placement African American studies course. Before the changes, Florida had rejected the course.⁣ ⁣ Now, students are threatening to sue their governor if the decision is not reversed. ⁣ ⁣ It took the College Board more than 10 years to develop the AP class. The board calls the course an “evidence-based introduction to African American studies.“⁣ ⁣ Critics accused the College Board of watering down the course’s curriculum after the Florida ban. But the organization pushed back on those claims, saying changes were completed before DeSantis’ complaints.⁣ ⁣ #CollegeBoard #Florida #CriticalRaceTheory #APClass #Education #RonDeSantis

Your spiritual path lies at the intersection of what terrifies and excites you. It lies in what feels both forbidden and sacred, profane and holy. Your calling is often the thing that has triggered you the most--this is where your power lies. 🪷🧘‍♀️ Because you have lived through these difficult experiences, you are uniquely qualified to teach others and provide guidance on your area of expertise! You took the AP class on that subject, and now it's qualifying you for special advancement, baby 👏 Your fear is the catalyst for change. If you are to inspire others, if you are to OWN your power...you must be able to face your demons...literally and metaphorically speaking. You have to dig deep and believe you are truly capable of saving yourself, or finding the necessary resources to do so. Everybody f*x up sometimes 💥 Get over it. We all have dirty or shameful secrets. Some are closet witches, praying to Lilith while their family attends Catholic church. Others speak Light Language and their friends call them cr@zy. Even more people see fantastic images and get brushed off as w@cky by those not gifted in clairvoyance. Others practice s3x magic and think they are gross or disgusting for it. Ignore. The. Haters. Do *not* get hung up on people triggering you about your gifts and beliefs!! The triggers are happening for YOU to step into your power. Own your weirdness, your gayness, your neurodivergency, your witchiness, your psychicness, 👏 ALL 👏 OF 👏 IT 👏 Or you cannot harvest the rewards that come along from the pain. Lean into your "shame." I promise you, there's a world of people waiting for your to share it, and make them feel okay for feeling the same shame 💗💗 Be that light to others, give them that hope at the end of the tunnel.

Course selection season is here!🚨 Here’s what you need to know: Strong grades and challenging classes are the first things colleges look for when reviewing an application. Make sure you’re taking the hardest classes that you can do well in, while also paying attention to your mental health.💞 Getting a D in an AP class won’t help you get into college and putting yourself in a position where you’re destined for stress and anxiety is a recipe for even bigger problems.👎 So when you’re going through course selection, it’s important to be mindful of anything that will be added to your load when those classes hit your schedule. Factor in sports, clubs, working, family responsibilities, travel - all of there demand your time and energy.🫠 It’s all about finding that sweet spot between challenging yourself and caring of yourself. ✨Dedicated to high school pre-vets✨ 📌SAVE & SHARE 🩺Pre-Vet Timeline: 4 years of high school 3-4 years of college,pre-vet/related degree Optional gap years 4 years of vet school 🌟Tips for preparing for vet school in high school: —Gain as much animal handling experience as possible:kennel tech, shelter/rescue volunteer, wildlife rehab facility volunteer, zoo volunteer, dog walker, etc —Clinical experience may be hard to come by in high school, but don’t worry, opportunities will come. I didn’t have any clinical experience until college —Consider applying to summer camps/pre-health organizations like COSMOS (CA State Summer School for Mathematics and Science)& HOSA. They’re great for networking and enhancing your college app —Work hard in school to gain admission to a college with a strong animal science focus and a community of like-minded people ⭐️What to expect in college: —Choose a major related to vet med that will fulfill prerequisites for vet school —Research vet schools you’re interested in and strive for a high GPA —Utilize breaks to gain clinical experience, consider working at a clinic, exploring study abroad opportunities, research, internships in labs, etc —Plan ahead: create an educational plan early, and if you plan to apply to vet school in your third year, use your third to fourth year summers wisely Reflecting on my high school years, I didn’t have stellar stats – my ACT score was 27/36, I took only 1 STEM AP class, and I was an average student.I engaged in wildlife rescues, rescue volunteer, and wrote my college application essay about my experiences in animal rescue and how they inspired me to become a vet. My essays definitely helped in gaining admission to the college I desired. Your experiences can outweigh your stats, and if you’re passionate, you’ll get there If you’re still unsure about vet school, college is the time to explore the profession. Gain clinical experience, join pre-vet clubs, and diversify your experiences. I think academics are important, I just think we are putting so much on these kids at a younger and younger age. It seems we take away play, which is how people create, and add an enormous amount of school work (Think about how many adult companies have reintroduced play at the office). I can name more young adults in college currently and recently graduated that did not benefit from AP college credits earned in highschool, than I can that benefitted. They still went to college for 4 years even though they entered as a sophomore, same college debt, job opportunity seems the same, and income. The thing I do see changing is their happiness and love of life. Maybe it is just me listening to podcasts at 40 that guide you to find happiness, success, and peace. The gift of living is being able to serve, find gratitude in your day, getting outside to breathe the fresh air, and being present in the small moments. I just think it would be a gift to give it to our children sooner. You can find so much fulfillment and joy in life, but not if you don’t get to experience any of it. The definition of success needs to be redefined. Working hard at something you love and being able to make a living is success. As a Mom I want to help her find her gift and have the life skills to live a life full of love, passion, with a side of grit. Work is good for the soul and I have always believed that, but there has to be moments of rest and play, especially for our kids. Note: I do think taking AP classes are beneficial, but I also think taking that AP class again your freshmen year allows for a smoother transition into college. Maybe you totally disagree and have a perspective I have not considered. We should always try do better for the next generation, and we do that best when we do that together! What do you think would help contribute to the success and happiness of the upcoming generations? #mom #momlife #college #entrepreneur #entrepreneurship #dream

Unmasking my #autism in my personal life, professional life, and in social media was about survival. The irony is that masking my #neurodivergent and #autistic behaviors was also about survival. It was made very evident at key moments in my life, my natural way of being was not appropriate for students, adults, or professionals. As a teenager - I realized it wasn’t worth burdening myself with the trivial social world other folks created. I lived by my own code - inspired by humanist punk and skate culture values. However, after my grandmother died, leaving me destitute and nearly-homeless (x-partner’s family offered me super low rent in their home) just before my 19th birthday, and a subsequent job interview with the electricians union that went incredibly sour… When they looked at my academic records: terrible attendance and a GPA that slowly dipped year after year even while enrolled in honors and an AP class - they laughed me out of the interview: The price to pay for being #punk and not playing by the rules. That’s when I realized I had to “act like an adult,” and just do what society expects of you. If I didn’t play by the rules, I wasn’t going to be given opportunities for upward mobility - the pattern was clear in every direction I looked. That’s when my brain shifted to masking mode: focus on the things people like and mute the things people don’t like. Everything I was proud of about myself: being independent, saying no confidently, arguing with authority figures when they were wrong (and rallying for them when they were right), being unfiltered in sharing my observations and critiques - all of the strength had to be put in a crowded little box at the front of my brain where I could make sure it didn’t get me into trouble anymore. I learned to hate those parts of myself because somewhere I saw them as a threat to my self. Those were the parts that could get me in trouble… Now I see that they were always my power, and that trying to keep my power locked up in a box for so long was bound to lead to an eruption at some point. The eruption was going to either be inward or outward - I’ve chosen outward to preserve myself. 🌋 ❤️
