Hiy hiy, @aptn_ca ♥️ Grateful to have been part of APTN’s 25th anniversary celebration where they announced the official launch of “APTN Languages”—the first national Indigenous language channel! 📺🌍 This is a huge step towards protecting and revitalizing Indigenous languages, a crucial element in Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Report. Of the 70 Indigenous languages in Canada, 40 have 500 or fewer speakers, many elderly over the age of 70. Preserving these languages is vital for our future generations and the time to act is now. Tune in to APTN Languages for programming in 12+ languages, including Cree, Inuktitut, Anishinaabemowin, Mi’kmaq, and more. Throwback to being interviewed for the first time on APTN by the lovely @mridgenwpg almost a year ago ✨ Wow has the time flown by! I’m so blessed to gave the chance to take up space and share good old laughs/good medicine wherever I am. That’s honestly the only reason I do comedy videos or try hard to make people laugh. It’s healing. The aunty character, or persona is something that came from the deep love and admiration I have for my own aunties, the ones that I quote and take my personality from in my videos. Everything from the jokes, the laughs, the sweet rezzy voice, it’s all so beautiful and perfect to me and I know is relatable to others that have aunties in their lives. Even though I don’t do aunty videos as much anymore I’m so glad I got to make people laugh, brighten their day, or make them remember home 💙 It’s a beautiful thing when indigenous people can show up and bring life and lived experience into their art, so much so that it fills you with pride and makes you happy to identify with them. Native TikTok often makes me feel that way, and it’s a good safe feeling. I’m rambling now but I am proud to have been interviewed on APTN because I remember always curling up with my mom watching APTN news together before she passed. My house is turning into a space where I can show the youth about bad contracts how to make innovative Music, bc Canada pushes and supports natives who do the radio friendly music like folk and pop country and rap. I came back from learning from the best in the business and want to share that with new peers in Winnipeg. It’s all been whitewashed here and me and a few others want to change that in a positive way.
