NU🚨 ARDS = oxygenation FAILURE.
This is one of the most dangerous respiratory conditions you’ll see on the NCLEX — and it escalates FAST.
🫁 Fluid-filled alveoli → stiff lungs → refractory hypoxemia
💡 Oxygen won’t fix it alone… this is a VENTILATION + PEEP situation.
✨ NCLEX LOVES to test:
• “White-out” CXR
• Normal BNP (rules out heart failure)
• P/F ratio < 200
• PRONE positioning to improve oxygenation
❗ Remember:
🚫 IV fluids make ARDS worse
✅ Sedate + ventilate with PEEP
👀 Quick NCLEX check:
A patient with sepsis develops severe dyspnea, diffuse crackles, and worsening hypoxia despite oxygen.
