The balance feels off, the low end feels different, sometimes the vocal sits weird compared to how you remember it. You start second guessing your own mix because now nothing lines up with what you expected to hear. Most of that is just the room getting in the way. Once panels are up around the desk and the first reflection spots, that weird disconnect starts to go away. You play the same reference again and it feels a lot closer to what you’re used to hearing everywhere else. It’s not fighting the room anymore, so you’re not constantly trying to mentally correct what you’re hearing. In this studio we installed GIK panels for the client.
